Now owned by UCI FRAM GROUP, aka fram filtration, makes fram, stp and mopar brands?

So why not switch my $4 orange can to a $3.50 STP if they're made by the same company?

I love both fram and stp and hate the bad rap they get.
 
Personally I think every company makes cheap end filters and high end filters.

Comparing a $4 filter to an $8 filter is apples and oranges. This is what most people do.


On the other hand I really like Fram Ultras. Do I trust them for 15k? I'm not really sure but I feel 10-12k is safe.

When one company buy out another, it doesn't mean that the company under new ownership changes the way that do their manufacturing process or the use of materials. It often means that their corporate policies have changed first, not necessarily their manufacturing process.

So, this doesn't mean that the STP filters are made like FRAM filters. They're probably still made the way STP filters were made under the Champion umbrella...for now!
 
To elaborate on what I mean by all of this ^^^

I once worked for a company(Well Known/LARGE Major Corp.) that was bought out twice during my stint there and we didn't change manufacturing processes over night! We did make improvements over time. But, those improvements would have happened regardless who the owner of the company was.

Our machines, our manufacturing policies(SOP's) and our people(Mgt, Eng, Op, Lab) were still the same. And as typical, people moved around or were replaced over time!

I got a stp filter in an oil deal and it was an e-core design
I dont like e-cores much so I keep it as a backup
 
Autozone is my place, after having dad go there for decades, comparing a $3.50 STP to a $6.99 Bosch, seems that the consensus on BITOG is that the Bosch is superior.

Every air filter, oil filter, fuel/oil additive I have used, has never given me any advantage over another. I dropped additives recently, the paper end caps dont bother me, as long as its got the starburst on the oil bottle, im satisfied.

Keep in mind that while Fram and Champion are under the same ownership, they are still different product lines. I'd take a look at the STP filter for your application. If it's an Ecore, I'd go with the orange can first. If it's the standard Champion design, I'd definitely use it over the orange can.

I'd take a look at the STP filter for your application. If it's an Ecore, I'd go with the orange can first. If it's the standard Champion design, I'd definitely use it over the orange can.


Could you explain ecore? The only filter that Ive ever had a problem with was a 2869 STP, but I didnt screw it on tight, my fault.
 
Next OC will be a rinse with standard dino, to get the restore, seafoam, mmo, and rislone out. Will be flushing with STP Multipurpose, which I believe to be mostly Naptha and a "proprietary" mineral oil. Im dropping all additives, never seen benefit.

STP $3.50
Orange can $4.19
Bosch $6.99

All willing to use and buy, just want input as to which has highest capacity. (Bosch States on their website that they holds 14 grams)

For a cheap $4 filter, I'd rather have Napa Silver or Purolator Classic

Purolator makes MOPAR oil filters, or at least they did. Did they change?

Why not Fram TG instead of Orange can?
 
On the FRAM/Champion products being different, I don't recall a FRAM ECore filter being available until after being combined with Champion.

I would bet the ecores are the same filter except for the paint.
 
I havent ever seen a fram branded ecore yet either...only the champs and there private label stuff....seems they are using the champ stuff as the bottom tier and private label while keeping fram as fram only..oc,tg,hm,ultra....champ gets to do the "dirty"work ....just what i have noticed...nothing wrong with any of it imho.
 
I've decided to stay at walmart and just get an Ultra. $8.97, which is perfectly fine. Steel screen, two ply media, steel end caps, everything sounds great.
