A sealant once a year has served me well. My Santa Fe with 300K miles looked showroom condition when it went to the scrap yard aside from stone chips I touched up.

I've thought about trying a ceramic coating but, washing and waxing my cars is a recreational event for me. Since I have 5 cars in the family, it's also good exercise in the spring and fall.
For now, I'm sticking with my assortment of old fashioned carnuba-based, liquid and paste waxes.

I used Adams Ceramic spray other day for first time on just the hood to try it, Its worth every penny.

PPF makes way more sense to me.
The cost is in the prep. When you have $500 or more in labor just to correct your paint the $250-400 to apply the coating makes sense.
Real PPF needs the same prep and is twice as expensive as a ceramic coating for less coverage, and if you invest in a full custom cut and applied PPF, I'd recommend you have it then ceramic coated.
It all depends on the value of the car to the owner and how they want to protect it.
