CCW Renewal

Astro, are you a full time Floridian now?
I am. Not to take us too far off topic, but...

We bought the house in Florida in March. Moved over the ensuing couple of months, completing that in Mid-May. We have both lived in Florida previously (Pensacola).

We closed on the sale of our house in Virginia Beach earlier this week (and the check cleared, which was nice), which makes it official. I’ve got most of the cars registered (still unpacking and looking for the title for the S600)

My VA Concealed Carry is good for another year. I’m considering renewing it as a non-resident. My military service is considered sufficient training for a CC. No further testing required, which I thought interesting - my admin clerk never carried a gun in his life, but he’s eligible without further training?

My military service was considered sufficient for a Florida CC - but I still had to take the test, which was easy, about 20 minutes on a computer at the DNR.

Utah required their own certified, 4 hour training class, and passport photos, as I mentioned.

~$100, 4 hour class, range qual., and the local Sheriff legally has 4 months to complete ... which they are more than happy to take all of ... just for CCW reup.

8 hr class on initial application + all the rest. Good for 5 years.

+ fingerprints and new pic at the main Sheriff's office every time.

Correct me if I'm wrong but obtaining the Utah out of state gives reciprocity with the most states.
True, but most/many of those states are constitutional carry anyway. Some states have stopped recognizing out of state non-res permits entirely.

Having a Utah (or Arizona) NR doesn't mean what it used to.

We don't need a permit anymore in AL, but I still get mine because of travel to TN and GA, due to their CCW reciprocity with AL. If I carried in either state without a permit and got snagged, I might not be able to post here for a while.

If it is a renewal, you don't have to appear in person in Virginia. Fill out the form, pay your 50 for 5 years and wait on the mail.
