My permit was due for renewal 9/1/26. I called the Chester County Sheriff's department to see when I should start the process. I was told July 1.
I went to the Sheriff's office in the County courthouse with my completed 1 page application. The sheriff's officer took my $20, the Renewal form and my DL, had me stand in front of a small camera, took my picture. He then handed my DL back and told me to have a seat. 10 minutes later he handed me my new permit...good for and 5 years. It took me longer to find a parking spot and walk to the courthouse than the entire renewal process.
Vastly efficient process from several years ago.

Here in south carolina you're lucky to get your renewal if you started the process 6 months ahead of time. Permits and renewals here are not handled at any local courthouse or sheriffs dept but out in columbia sc. I will send my renewal in September for a December expiration.

Yep. Just renewed mine in Huntingdon County, PA. Same thing....printed out the form at home and filled it in before going to the sheriff's office. Walked in, turned in that form, $20 and my driver's license, the clerk ran me through the computer (said i was "squeaky clean"), took my picture, printed the license and laminated it. I was out the door 9 minutes after I walked in!! I have had a carry permit in PA for 40 years.

I just did mine on line last week. Printed it out and mailed it in with a check. Yesterday I received an E-Mail saying it has been approved, and will be mailed to my address. Totally painless and fast. Good for at least another 5 years.

I tried the online option...not that easy with a tablet. So I tried with the desktop... Still not so easy uploading pics of my DL...plus, they only take credit cards and there's a $7 service fee. Besides, walking a few blocks in West Chester, PA in 102 degree heat is a worthwhile endeavor.

Virginia is a mail in deal. Easy.

Utah is a mail in deal. Easy. (Though it was the most difficult to get, requiring passport photos and a certified course).

Florida is online, mail-in, or in person, whatever is convenient for you.

Texas has constitutional carry and doesn't bother residents or charge fees for constitutionally protected activities. Novel idea, I know.
My main reason for continuing to want a CCW is it exempts you from the Instacheck background check when you purchase a firearm. That system can cause problems going down all the time.

And I know guys that have had their background checks either delayed or rejected for things like unpaid parking tickets, and other glitches. Laying a CCW on the counter avoids all of that. Plus you can carry without any issues.

When I lived in Tucson (2012-15), the only reason to get a CCW permit was due to reciprocity across 38 states. The average Joe didn't need a permit for open or concealed carry. Has something changed?

Same here.
