CCW for the wife?

. Im going to get myself a Kel-Tec P11 here real soon so I wont get her that. Im thinking perhaps a Kel-Tec P3AT or a Taurus .380 with a pink frame. But hey somebody throw some ideas out at me. Im going to stick with either a 9 or .380. Calibers I already stock is what I like to buy.
How about letting the Mrs. pick out her pistol on her own. It is kinda like for Christmas I bought my wife an outboard engine for my boat.

You, most likely not her, want to get your wife a CCW. Without any input from her. But you get on a public forum and ask a bunch of strangers what she should have. ARE YOU CRAZY. That mentality will get YOU the weapon YOU want, not the one that she will practice with or carry at all. Keltecs, and their ilk, are not good weapons for most females of our species. They hurt after 15 rounds. Neither are 1911's.

My wife, when she decided she wanted a carry weapon, had her choice of any gun in the safe, or gun shop. She tried all the ones on my safe and several at the rental range, and settled on my 1918 S&W .32 long Hand Ejector. Best gun for self defense? No. Best gun for her? You bet your butt it is. It's the gun she wanted to carry, and she does carry it all the time. She is "you're dead" accurate out to 25 feet because she practices with it at least twice a month. Not 50 rounds, most likely 200 rounds a session.

Could not agree more. She will really appreciate the liberty of her own choice. Be at a man, a diamond or a gun..
 
Heavier recoil? No. PPK is not a light gun, it soaks it up pretty well, ESPECIALLY for it's size.
It's got a fair bit of muzzle flip, but no real recoil.
My wife is capapble of keeping 7 rounds on target at decent range, while firing fairly rapidly.
And she's definately a bit light in the wrist department.
 
She wants to carry a firearm. She has the permit. I just want her to have her very own CCW instead of carrying something out of my personal non-CCW collection. She has enjoyed shooting any pistol she can get her hands on. So stop calling me crazy! Anywho, I would love for her to pick her own but it would ruin the birthday surprise. So Id rather choose something shes familiar with like my LCP or KelTec P11 type of pocket pistol. So dont try and say Im getting her something that I only like and believe will do her right. She likes um all and handles them all just fine.

I've fired 3 rounds of 125gr full house .357 loads out of a friend's SP101.

Since I'm not into pain, I stopped.

Then why are you asking for suggestions? Which of the guns you want to get her does she like?
 
I dont think I have ever made a decision "for my wife" that ever turned out to be the right on (in her mind).

Because being comfortable with just about anything opens a huge door. Now I really dont know what to to get her.
 
Take the Mrs. out to a nice brunch and then go to the gun shop and let HER make the choice of a gun to buy. Make it nice time together.

Some say it my be to small calibar? I say try to run away!!

I will also say I only use CCI ammo and have shot over 1K rounds through both with only a few failure to feed. The more we have shot the PMR-30 the fewer failures we have had...
 
Kel-tec also recommends only certain ammo, IIRC. Or recommends AGAINST certain ammo. Something about the length of the rounds produced by different companies, I think.
 
Rix: You are correct...Thus the reason I only run CCI in ours...I will also say, I have a local policeman who lives across the street from us...We do hangout alot...I should him the Kel-Tec PMR 30 once I had both setup... He was amazed at the light weight and balance of the handgun...We took it to the local law enforcement private range... He shot over 200 rounds through my gun...Then we went back to town and he ordered one for his wife for her CC & set it up with the same lazer and light as ours...He was amazed at the PMR30... Mind you, these are what we carry in our autos and travel... Not for home defence...

I think I read it's more reliable than it's grendel (?) predecessor/competition.

An airweight or better still, an airlight.

The lighter, the more likely it is to be carried.

And it will almost certainly go boom every time you stroke the trigger.

Some of the other little plastic things you guys have mentioned are more likely to only go boom once and then stop working from the dirt and [censored] they collect from being carried.

A J-frame.

There is simply no better choice!
