I was wondering if anyone has information reference the composition of this oil ? I just purchased a 5 gallon pail since it is still rated CI-4 instead of CJ-4. I would assumed the zinc and phosphorus levels should be higher which would make it perfect for my older 1998 Dodge diesel, motorcycle, lawnmowers, and ATV.

I don't have any hands one use with it, but if it says CAT an the label its definitely high quality.

I doubt that. The pour point suggests a conventional or, at best, a blend, at least from the link posted. And the ones on the link are the old CI-4 stuff.

Cat stuff is good, but it is a lot like John Deere stuff... you pay a lot for the name when you could get an equal product for less. Deca/East Penn makes Cat batteries, they take the same batteries and package them for O'Reilly's and other labels. I have hauled a lot of Deca batteries and seen how they package the stuff at the plants. When I was deciding on some filters for a new Detroit engine, I had a discussion with the Donaldson regional rep for my area. In the discussion I found out that Donaldson is making most, but not all, of the Cat filters. Same filters that Donaldson sells under their own label for less.

One thing you have to give Cat and JD credit for.... they sure have marketed things in a way to create a loyal following. Not chastising them for it, just noting it.

Not entirely true, I'll show you a donaldson filter and a donaldson filter made to CAT specifications. Different internally. Metal end caps vs. rubber end caps; CAT filters have a composite tube vs. metal for a donaldson.

Far as Deka goes they do make CAT batteries, but to CAT specification. If you buy a Deka 4D it will be 1050cca, CAT 4D it will be 1400cca, its an exclusive design made by East Penn.

In the field I've seen CAT batteries go 8 years, i've seen generic 4D batteries fail at 4 years.

Where do you even get CAT oil? Just wondering. I know the CAT dealers must have it, but anywhere else?
