Castrol Syntec Q's?

hello everyone, have a syntec question for everyone, Ive been using the German castrol 0w30 and i really like it 7500km OCI drained today still wasn't too dark. Now i know this is a real Group IV PAO/ester basestock and im paying for that! My question is i know the other syntec isn't group IV i think i remember reading its Group III is this correct ?????

Also is the other grades of Syntec(us) as good as the 0w30 syntec(german made)

I believe the other grades besides 0w30 are Group III yes, but I can't say definitively; one of the experts should be along shortly to verify. In the mean time, I'd say you're definitely getting your money's worth with a 7500km OCI.

7500km is only 4500 miles. That's not even extended OCI territory. I don't understand the comment "definitely getting your money's worth" when we are talking about a $6 per quart true synthetic oil.

I agree. I've got 13,000 kms (7,800 miles) on regular Syntec 5W30...something like that starts to fall in the "getting your money's worth" category.

Then again, Merkava added a wink so I don't think he was being serious with that comment.

IMO, NO.

OTOH, GC is no more expensive than any other flavor of Syntec at those retailers which stock it. In the US, that would mean Auto Zone alone.
A bit OT, but GC has always been a mystery to me. Why would Castrol bother importing GC? Why not just offer the American flavor 0W-30? It's not as though the average owner (or even dealer) pays any attention to the required oil spec for various Euro cars.
It is as though Castrol is throwing a bone to BITOGers, by offering a really exceptional oil at a reasonable price.
Does anyone have any thoughts on why this stuff is even available, and why only AZ stocks it?

If you want a full PAO at half the price try ESSO XD-3 0w30 or 0W-40.

In the US, we can buy GC at AZ when Syntec is on sale for around $4.50/qt.
Since our respective currencies are now at parity, are you saying that I can buy the ESSO branded oil for liter?

well only reason i dumped it so soon is beacause the engine is still on break-in (only has 12K since rebuild) and i figure its cheap insurance. im gonna run one more 7500km then see about 10k then maybe more but i think 10k is gonna be it because thats about twice a year for me so...

What does the GC bottles look like? Have never seen them. You say they sell them at autozone?

Two words, European specs. AFAIK, it is the only 30 weight in their line that carries A3 spec, along with various euro auto specific approvals.
