Hello to all; new member here.

I just wanted to let you all know I have found an online source for the (Belgian?) Castrol Syntec 5w40 that many VW dealers use.

It is available at http://www.impexfap.com
It is part #ZVW352540S

Happy driving!

There are two different Castrol oils available at the VW dealer. One is a VW 502.00, the other one is a VW 505.01 oil.

You are correct. I believe the 505.01 standard is for the VW PD TDI engine.

The Castrol Syntec 5w40 oil that I referred to in my original post is the one that carries the VW 502.00 approval.

Sorry if I caused any confusion.

I can buy this oil at my local auto parts store. It's the same price as the other Syntec's. This oil is most likely group III. There are VOA's of this oil on here.

VW/Audi dealers used to sell this oil for $6.79 a quart. I think they lowered it down to about $5.00 a quart now. My local VW/Audi tuning shop was buying it from the local auto parts store. Then after the sludge issue. VW lowered the price, and now they buy it from the local VW dealer.

JHZR2. I don't remember seeing the GM-LL-A
reccomendation on the bottle when I bought
some for my BMW. The castrol web site has
the following specs: VW 502.00 ; 505.00 ,
Porsche approved, BMW approved-BMW LL-98,
MB 229.3 ; 229.1, Volvo approved and the
ACEA A3,B3,B4 Euro spec. This oil is now
available at CDN. Tire stores for the same
price as the other Syntec oils. It used to
$2.00 more per bottle.

I'm wondering how the VW505.01 oil would do in a gasser. There's no such thing as over-protected cams, is there?

The 505.1 is also used in other VW products. I think the Phaeton W12 has to use it as well.

505.01 is mandatory for use in the Audi RS6, so I imagine it would be fine for almost any gas engine.

Also, any confusion regarding the general differences between Castrol Syntec 5W40 and Castrol TXT 505.01 can be cleared up here.

I believe this is an actual european formulation, like GC... Could be wrong though. Apparently it is illegal to sell Gr. III oils as synthetics in Europe.

I think this is a Gr IV with some V mixed in.

Now for my question:

Is this (or any other castrol product) GM-LL-A spec compatible?

Thanks!

JMH

Yes, but it is labelled as HC in Europe. To me it smells exactly like the rest of the Syntec line (save for GC) and I believe that the other grades are simply derivations thereof. In other words...the same formula.

When I contacted Castrol USA about the GM LL in the 0W 30 they said it was something they were not "focusing on". Instead they are "focusing on" BMW and MB long life designations.

Can someone volunteer to do a VOA on this stuff - the Castrol TXT 505.01 5w-40? (I would if I had some on hand). I would like to see how the additive package compares since it is apparently formulated to prevent cam wear on the mechanically operated injection system. I think this would apply to any flat tappet type cam system.

Edit: I found this http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=11;t=000157#000010.

Ill disagree here. I think the 5w-40 from the dealer smells just almost like that of Mobil 1 5w-40. and it really REALLY smells like kendall GT-1 5w-40. anyways, by saying that the syntec 5w-40 we get is the same 5w-40 that is sold in europe as an HC oil, is to assume that the HC oil is also made in Belgium.

i doubt it but, theres always the possibility though. BTW, im using it now over GC (yeah yeah i know.) but i like.
