My dads cousin in France has a Citroën diesel and a Renault gasoline powered car. The Diesel has over 500K KM on it and the gasoline over 300K KM and have been very good to own.

I think it's only in N.A. that we have the problems we have because we "put up with it".

In Europe that same stunt would put the company out of business or start a revolt.

It's funny how the Fords, and Opels (GM) over their last for a long time but here they fall apart. (Or at least North American cars of the past anyways)

Europeans don't put up with #!@$

I wish diesels were more easily available here, You have no idea how fast I would snap up an Audi A5 TDi.

I would love to have some Diesel choices here... I would snap one up and turn it into a bio-fuel eater... I would buy all the equipment to have my own home brewing station. Working in the restaurant industry I have lots of connections to free fryer grease.

I would own a diesel now but VW scares the $!#@ out of me with their quality problems and over pricing of Diesels... No thanks.

Funny you mention that. I was thinking about doing the same thing myself. I just don't have room for another car at the moment. Wouldn't mind picking up an old school Benz and turning it into a WVO car.

I want a cheap reliable diesel that is about 2.5L or less and easy to repair. VW used to be this back in the late 80's early 90's but then went nuts and IMO destroyed a good thing. I wouldn't touch a VW of the new generation.

I'm keeping my eyes open for a Jetta from the era I was talking about that I can snag and possibly start a project on the side turning it into a fryer grease muncher and teach these oil companies a lesson.

I spend over $600/mo in fuel and could be pocketing this $7,200 a year in mileage by burning fryer grease I would have access to for free. Sure it will cost a bit for the equipment to clean it and some chemical additives but even at $2,000/yr (which it won't cost) but lets say it did, it's over $5K a year in savings.

And that is very attractive!

Too bad that VW has the only really small diesels on the market in this country and they all suck for reliability at the moment and are way over priced.

Give me back the old black smoke chugging indestructible easy to fix diesels of the late 80's early 90's.

I have a VW Cabriolet (same vehicle but convertible) and I can't fit in it. Not enough leg & head room for my 6'2" body.

That's why I want a Jetta.
