Castrol Syntec 0w-30 GOLD GERMAN CASTROL, 5238 miles on oil, 1997 VW Passat GLX -VR6

f1forkvr6, just curious, I have a Jetta VR6. I change to oil every 5k with Amsoil 5w40 Euro Formula. I have had 0 oil consumption. How do you feel now about the 0w30 GC vs Amsoil 5w40. I have noticable knocking on startup for about 5 seconds. But runs pretty good besides that.

Amsoil is a quality oil, but I've never used it. Perhaps someone's posted a UOA using this oil/weight in a VR6?

My consumption was a bit less using Lubromoly VS 5w-40. I'm going back to that at my next change to see if my consumption drops down to where it was 50k miles ago.
