Castrol manufactures special oils like SLX LongLife II 0w30 for some Audi/VW (VW 503 00/506 00, 506 01) and SLX LL01 FE 0w30 for some BMW (N40, N42, N62 and N73 engines). No doubts a.m oils meet or, may be, even exceed, to certain extend, ACEA A1/B1, A5/B5 requirements. I'd aslo add SLX R-Tec 0w30 (ACEA A5/B5) to the lot of low viscosity special oils, though, formally, it does not bear Volvo approval.
Except, obviously, some slight diffence in additive packages and base stocks, their technical data are quite similar to those of other ACEA A1/B1, A5/B5 oils including TXT Softec Plus A1 (ACEA A1/B1, Ford WSS-M2C-913A, -913B). That’s why, I'd guess that LongLife II, LL01 FE and R-Tec may be used in engines where ACEA A1/B1, A5/B5 oils are required. My supposition could get an additional support when I had found that Motorex Concept V-XL 0w30 bears ACEA A5/B5, VW 503 00/506 00, 506 01, and BMW LL-01 FE.

However, it remains the question what would be an impact if to use one them (LongLife II, LL01 FE and R-Tec) instead of another (LongLife II, LL01 FE, R-Tec and TXT Softec Plus A1), but not to exceed 10K miles OCI ? So, the question is about possible interchangeability and what makes them really special except OEM approval.
