Does it mean that the Syntec has a lot more certs and may be a better choice, if the oil you need is a 0w30 and you're willing to spend the extra for a synthetic oil. They are pretty close to the same price, although Mobil 1 is available in a lot more places.

Most of the Euro specs require a HT/HS viscosity of at least 3.5 Cp @ 150C. This is the main reason most xw-30 synthetics don't technically meet this spec, even if they met the requirements for wear, deposits, etc.

Even the Amsoil 5w30/10w-30 are now formulated thinner and are ACEA A5/B5 oils, but don't technically meet these Euro specs anymore.

How about some free synthetic? If you haven't use the rebate from Maxlife.com yet, its quite a good deal for a decent oil.

Maxlife looks like on paper to have much better specs than M1, and if it's free, that's a lower price, too. But, do you have a user id and password, and how does one get one.

What's the difference between GC's GF-3 rating and M1's GF-4? Does it mean that GC is outdated?

Louie can you explain how much difference in "slip" there is between a GF-4 and a GF-3 rated oil and also how is "slip" measured?

Isn't 'slip better' covered in the ILSAC G-4 rating that gets you an API certified star burst symbol. If an oil has a start burst it must slip better. Isn't that why 40+ weight oils, and thick 30 weights like GC will never get a star burst. They are too thick to slip better. I'll bet you won't see and star bursts on CJ-4 oils, either, big trucks don't slip. So, esentially someone is right, thin GF-4 oils slip better.
