The updated Castrol Euro 0W30/40 with LL-01 approval are FINALLY available in Canada. Currently on sale at CTC for $49.99/4.73L plus a $10 rebate on one jug.

Only took nearly two years since its release in the US.

How's that compare to Castrol Euro 5w40 which is also A3/B4?
I picked this up last week for $42.99 for 5L from HH with API SL rating (both seem to be made/blended in N. America).

I think the 0W oils will have a higher percentage of PAO over the 5W versions. Others here would know better than me. I like that the 0W30 has a pour point of [edit -45C] , will be better for my daily driver in the winter. Should be better than the dealer 0W30 LL-01FE which has a HTHS of only 3.0, while the new Castrol is 3.5.

New 0W30 pour point -45. PAO is 25-50%, probably now closer to 25%.

Edge 5W40 is a step lower. 0W40 and 0W30 are Castrol's top-tier oils.

Yeah, but pour point is not indicative of winter performance. That is why CCS and MRV are better methodology. New 5W40 SP oils mostly have pour point around-42 to -45, but CCS testing puts them in 5W not 0W category.

I wonder if the 0W-30 has a "xW-40" SP additive package now like the M1 FS 5W-30. That would mean the products would be nearly identical except a tiny viscosity difference.

Got it. So a 0W has a max CCS of 6200 at -35C. Looks like both of these oils should suffice. The 0W40 is 5980, the 0W30 is 5850, so a little better at -35C.

The 5W40 Euro is 6030 at -30 in comparison.

At -40 as common temperature in winter, I would not search for anything else but 0W.

Not common, but it can happen. Car struggled a bit couple years ago with Pennzoil Euro 5W40, back when there were no 0W oils that had LL-01.

The current ones from CT and others, now state "made in the USA from domestic/imported components".
Maybe your generalization is outdated?

I have jugs of edge 0w40 (5liters) in my stash that say "made in Belgium" on them. The latest ones I've bought (4.73l - 5 quarts) no longer have that. I don't use the 0w30 edge (yet).

It's just interesting that you praise Castrol Edge 0w30/40, as being superior to other Castrol offerings (which coincidentally were the only ones made in Belgium).
I'm curious if now that they are now made in the USA, if they are now the equivalent to Castrol Edge's other "Euro" offerings?

I praised it bcs. what was inside. Originally, until 2012 or something like that Edge 0W30 was made in Germany, not Belgium. 0W40 was made in Belgium. Then they switched, 0W40 production moved to Germany, and 0W30 to Belgium.
5W40 is not equivalent as it is Group III product.
Until 5-6 years ago, it did not even have MB229.5 approval. It was always lower-tier product in Castrol's lineup. Country of origin is irrelevant.

Is LL-01 a must as well as high SAPS?
Pennzoil LX is 0w-30, available at Can Tire, often on sale, and has pour temp at -51C. Made in Germany if it matters.
