Good point. You shouldn't void the Powertrain Warranty, which is often 60k miles, so you have to follow the Owner's Manual oil change and/or OLM for the "new" period. Therefore, you could use the Castrol EP or M1 Annual Protection 20,000 mile OCI from 60k to 80k, yet after that they want you to switch to a High Mileage oil. At least M1 Ext Perf comes in a High Mileage version, 15k at least, so that's the only "EP" oil that makes sense to me these days. (Note M1 Annual Protection does not have a High Mileage version.)

It's good to have options like this. Edge EP is more robust and the testing they used is very legit - Seq IIIH, IVA and Kurt Orbahn. And the percentages they exceed these tests by is quite impressive. I would absolutely use any Edge oil with confidence.

Once spring his and I go back to doing my own oil changes this will likely be my choice.

Anyone can put an arbitrary number on a bottle. It's called MARKETING. Every car, engine, situation, etc. is different. The same oil has a wide range of service lives depending on the engine, driver, location, fuel, and many other factors.

Yeah run it for 20K in a Honda 1.5T in northern climates.

Absolutely true. However what's not arbitrary are the numbers they exceed those very demanding tests by.

Even if you don't use it for the full 20k, it can still be of value in engines like the Honda 1.5.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people get upset when an oil manufacturer offers a top tier long drain oil. The more choices the better. Competition is a good thing and having more options than only Amsoil and Mobil is a positive.

Not upset at all.

Just understand the number has almost no significance and is not comparable to another brand's "good for 20k miles" oil. It's just a "my number is larger than yours" marketing tactic.

I haven't brought myself to use Castrol oil since they won the lawsuit Mobil brought upon them in the '90's. Made the word "Synthetic" meaningless. Flame suit on.

There was no lawsuit. Does that make it better?

Castrol Edge EP is dexos1 Gen2 now, in 5w30 at least. Not in the other weights though... ... As for PUP, well, Pennzoil doesn't seem to care about dexos1 for that, as they're happy with it being for SRT Dodge & Indy cars (0w40), and the non-GM SN market, practically a boutique oil now its so hard to find.

*Main A5/B5 oil rating selling point ?

So is there a difference between what's in the bottles that say 20k and the sn+ bottles that say 15k?
I just got 2 5qt jugs on sale $20. The 15k jugs.

That is interesting, if they can stand 20k why cant they pass A5?

There is nothing special about A5/B5 and any synthetic oil will meet it. It's not marketed for Europe and there is no reason to spend another million dollar on the European engine tests.
