So, with Castrol saying 25k miles guaranteed with an asterix at the end, on the back of the bottle it states:
“if your vehicle is under warranty or if driving in severe service applications, follow the oil change interval recommended by your manufacturer. Examples of severe service applications would be racing, frequent towing or hauling, excessive idling or commercial use.”
So with that being said, 99% of average drivers should not go 25k miles with this oil. According to Castrol, the only time you can actually go 25k miles is if you’re only doing very easy driving only, and I’m assuming they mean highway driving only. The asterisk basically admits that this oil should not go 25k miles for 99% of drivers.
One of the biggest and most fraudulent marketing strategies with vehicles nowadays are “long drain intervals” and “lifetime fluids”. They make these claims so buyers think they won’t have to spend much on maintenance. But 99% of the time, the people that follow these claims using average fluids and chemicals pay a big price right out of warranty, having to spend thousands, or even tens of thousands on replacing engines and transmissions.
Has anyone actually gone 25k on this oil? How did it actually do in the real world?
