Back in Arizona. Finally
This is for my '2013 Mazdaspeed 3. The car is in warranty, uses 5w30 and Mazda (for now) recommends Castrol lubricants in the owners manual. Would one be better for this application than the other?
TIA

I believe the gold bottle has an advantage over the black. Regular LOF changes are more important than which synthetic product.

Yes indeed, the rumors abound over just what Castrol oils consist of nowadays! Car is driven around 4-5k miles a year so it'll be in the sump for a year unless I decide differently.

Either would easily handle that IMO. I do personally believe Gold bottle is an even higher quality product than black, but for your purposes I'd doubt you'd actually take advantage of the "upgrade".

Gold bottle has shown itself to be very shear stable, so if you do a lot of short tripping maybe that would be the way to go.

I use the black bottle Castrol EDGE 0W-20 for 1 Yr/ 10,000 mile intervals on a 2012 Corolla, oil seems fine to me. Usually you can get coupons online for Walmart that make it a good deal. I think Castrol makes a good synthetic.

Either one should easily be able to go 5k miles.

Also, Castrol is recommended because of a business deal between Castrol and your car manufacturer. It's not like the engineers who designed the vehicle see it protecting the engine better than other oils. So feel free to use whichever oil you prefer.

Long gone by now.

The hoarders and flippers have bought all that up, even if they don't have a vehicle that uses it.
