One of last 3 small filters from member getawheel. Looks like something went way south judging by inside of can 🤢🤮

on this filter and the other two filters; soon as I opened can, top end AP and adbv fell off. Great quality control Purolator 💀☠️

I'm sure Purolator, and other major makers are well aware of this forum.

All we can do is spread the word. Same as Fram cardboard endcaps was spread around.
And as a result, Fram jumped right to updating them with metal end caps.

Op, with the exception of the end cap, the filter looks fine.

And, when this filter is assembled and installed, the end cap is secured by spring tension.

So it looks bad when you disassemble the filter. In operation, it makes no difference.
Fwiw, Jim Allen said essentially the same thing years ago in a post here. Jim hasn't posted in a while, but was/is generally well respected on this forum and this sub forum. Also for fwiw I agree, generally it's an aesthetics thing.

Just to be clear, I wasn't bashing fram. But we've all heard about the dreaded end caps tearing apart and locking the engine down. Then I woke up one day and realized I've never seen an engine lock because of one. Now what I have seen it because of neglect or abuse. I guess it's easier to blame the filter. As rooflessve said, spring tension is holding it together. I think the tearing issue is probably really something to talk about.

There's been way more torn Purolator made filters vs Fram, or any other "made by" filters. Fram had some issues a long, long time ago and those got blown up, exaggerated and spread around. Kind of like how flat earther's get recruited and "convinced" to believe what everyone else in that club "believes".
