Agree 100%. It's just not worth the risk.

How many years will tires last before aging out? Unfortunately, it's impossible to predict when tires should be replaced based on their calendar age alone.
I would say that is accurate. Tirerack wants to sell you tires, but even they will admit that tires do not age out.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has no specific guidelines on tire aging and defers to the recommendations of carmakers and tire manufacturers.
No tests, no evidence and no consensus. Just recommendations by people who makes the car, not the tires. This is from the second article.

That's not actually a Car and Driver magazine article or a C&D website artlcle or blog.... Fake news placed on Yahoo. A really dumb one in most ways.

No money to be made testing out old tires. Basic industry consensus is 6-10 years depending on the location and conditions. Like sunny places that get more exposure to the sun, maybe less and in less sunny conditions maybe longer. Up to the consumer to decide.

Assuming this were actually picked by C&D writers, as I've mentioned in another thread, recall how C&D operates. They don't touch any oil. They go to the dealer for all oil changes. So, given this, and the types of vehicles they drive, these choices are no surprise - a bunch of service fill oils with a European and performance bias. I'm surprised they didn't find room for one dexos2 oil.

C&D does some good instrumented testing I'm going to print out that list for my next Jiffy Lube visits.

Sometimes it's hard to remember what passes the P-Car A40 specification and what goes in the AMG and SRT.

So despite the fact that tire experts tell us that old tires are dangerous, you want to put your family at risk and other people too by running tires well past their prime?? That's just downright foolish, don't be so cheap!

Whew! Glad my Sonata is covered! As for my Jeep and Camry, well, I guess they'll be in the junk yard soon.
