The tire manufacture recommendations 10 years max.

There is no way to tell exactly how long a tire lasts. The lifespan and mileage of a tire depends of a combination of factors: its design, the driver's habits, the climate, the road conditions and the care that's put into the tires.
That's from the first article. I would agree with that, the Michelin website even said that tires do not age out. That's the second tire company that would love to sell you tires telling you that old tires are not bad just because they are old.

If they said that tire life was different in high UV areas that would mean less tires sold in temperate regions. Guess what they do instead? Blanket recommendations for everyone to replace their tires as if they were living on the equator.

Again: No tests, no evidence and no consensus = no arguments that stand up to any sort of criticism. They have the ability to artificially age a tire but they won't test or if they do, they won't release the data because it would cost them sales. I assume someone has tested old tires but the results got buried because they didn't fit the narrative: Change your tires every seven years else your kids and wife will die.

Well l am going to break this down to the lowest common denominator. Michelin can not give you a specific age when tires become too old. There is too many factors and combinations for anyone to say for certain when that will happen. The best case is 10 years. It's like this eating McDonald's Big Mac value meal 4 times will cause you health problems. When will it happen?

EXACTLY!!

I wouldn't play with fire if I were you. It's an old saying, but it's true, the only thing that separates your car from the road is your tires.

I'm not going to disagree that tires get old. But tell me this....when was the last time you heard of a tire blowout causing an accident. It happens....but compared to the occurrence of some teen girl texting and rear ending me....its small percentages.

It might be a small percentage, but just because Max wants to bury his head in the sand and pretend that his ancient tires are just as safe as newer ones doesn't make it true. I still think it's ridiculous to ignore the experts and take chances like that. For what reason, to save a few bucks? Getting new tires is a regular part of car maintenance, for a lot of people it happens every 4 or 5 years so they don't even hit that 7 year mark. But how cheap do you have to be that you think that going 7, 8, 9, 10 years on the same set of tires is ok? Tires for most cars aren't even that expensive, I changed both the Civic and BMW tires last year, with Sailun all weather tires and the Civic was under $400 installed (with tax) and the BMW was around $600. I'm just shaking my head here, I can't fathom the logic of trying to save money on a part of the car that is so vital for safety. I sure hope that decision doesn't lead to an accident....

This one came to my mind immediately:

I was actually fully expecting to see AmSoil on the list. Definitely not surprised to see the marketing budgets for Mobil 1, Pennzoil, and Castrol at work here.

And, if you found it on Yahoo!, it's probably.........low-quality (at best)

Missing Mobil 1 5W-30 ESP Formula and Pennzoil Euro L 5W-30

Happens all the time, just doesn't get reported, just like car accidents that have fatalities only get reported in the local news. It's routine so it's lost. How many times have you heard of someone getting killed on the side of the road changing a tire? A tire blowout doesn't have to lead to a direct cause of death. If you don't panic, you can control the car and move it to the side of the road. Then you get hit by a drunk driver or someone not paying attention...

Bad Firestone tires lead to many rollovers and deaths due to defective tires and too low tire pressure which was made worse in hot weather.

All are good oils, but, there are many left off the list that can protect just as well. Even the lesser named synthetic oils can protect your car up to at least 7500 miles. Most car owners won't even go that far before changing their oil.

Never seen M1 Euro at stores! I am assuming it is not the regular M1.

How does it compare with M1 EP?

"European Car Formula" is simply the label placed on regular M1 in the 0w40 weight. It's a favorite among many owners of European made cars, and you can find plenty of UOAs for it here in BITOG. Walmart stocks it.

Agree. A lot of stuff on Yahoo is computer generated with algorithms. The interwebs are full of this stuff.

But it's not Yahoo, it's Car and Driver. Most clearing houses of news, sports, lifestyle, etc. have some sort of crap factor. But the source isn't Yahoo...
