Can't Find....

I was looking on-line for my Favorite oil Castrol GTX MAGNATEC 10w30.

Wal-Mart .com is out or the 5qt jugs.
Amazon is out.
eBay only has 5w30
O'Reilly has it but doesn't stock it at my location.

Any ideas why this weight of MAGNATEC is vanishing? I can find the 5w30 but I much prefer the 10w.

In my area, it's the same with 5w30. The shelves are either empty or have only one or two jugs. The price has increased $4 in the last six months.

Suggest ordering oil from Amazon and seeing when it will be delivered.

My experience has been that they are conservative on back order delivery dates and that you get it sooner than promised.

The first idea I have is that more newer engines take the 5w30. I've heard kids say "10W-30 is obsolete; why use it?"
If that's the perception (without regard to facts or science) then I bet oil companies just make less of it.

How many cars made in the last 15 yrs spec 10w30? If the grade ends up on clearance, then that would indicate a softening demand. That should be an easy trend to follow.

Use 5W30 the difference between the two winter grades is negligible.

Many like the 10w due to lower viscosity spread.

As to if it really matters, no idea.

Is the 10w30 Magnatec still a blend or is it now a "full" synthetic?
I have 8 qts of 10w30 Magnatec from the AAP clearance a few years ago and it is labeled a blend.
