Anyone else still do canning?

Because they taste fantastic! My dad grew up working in a dill pickle factory in Wisconsin and his side of the family always canned dill pickles.

Do you have your own cucumber crop?

They're fantastic and easy to make. Taste much better than what you can buy in a jar. Why buy a $1500 saturn? Because you can.

Impressive! My mom used to when she was still around. She used to make a special blend for me that was half cucumbers and half jalapenos to give them a nice kick.

Very Nice! I used had a big garden in Ohio and canned everything. I have not had a garden in 7 years and really miss that. I learned everything from my grandma and grandpa. Walking into their cellar was like a kid in a candy store. All the colors of different vegys, jams, jellys, was great, I miss that!

The Home Canned goods section of my parents pantry/basement.
Floor: Grape Jelly, the family recipe Green tomato relish(no pickles), and ground horseradish
1st Shelf: Applesauce, Pearsauce, and Pear Juice
2nd Shelf: Pear Syrup, plums (I think), Tomato Juice, and canned Tomatoes
3rd Shelf: Pears(some in Juice, some in light syrup) & Peaches
4th Shelf: Apple Butter, Pear Butter, jar of lentils, eggplant curry, lone jar of peach jelly. Mom's secret recipe Dilly-Beans( my cousins will fight over these), and Beets, some pickled, some not.
Nearly all of it from my parents trees and garden plot.

(can you tell THEIR parents grew up in the depression?)

there are 2 more of those 4 ft shelving units to the right, filled w/ canned & dry goods.
not to mention the small chest freezer around the corner Solely for Zucchini Bread..
dad likes to have a month's supply of food on hand, just in case.

unfortunately I did NOT inherit their green thumbs.
I'm great w/ machines, but terrible w/ biologics.
I once Killed Aloe Vera b/c I FORGOT TO WATER IT ENOUGH!!!!
(desert succulent. doesn't need much water)

Looks like you have some garlic on the bottom of the jars?

would you mind sharing your recipe? I can never get them crispy.

The key to keeping them crispy is adding a 1/4 Teaspoon Alum to each jar. There you go!

Sure, I'll send you a jar. Do you want Hot (like a "bite hot") or regular? I add a Hungarian (Banana) Pepper to 9 of the Quarts...

Just PM me with your address, but you MUST wait 3 months to open them!
