*I'm writing this base on my memory from year and half ago. So, understand if something is not right while reading.*
I noticed that when I bought a Wix filter from another location, it was different than what I have purchased before.
The one I used to use before was made in America(or Canada) was inside a paper box and the new one I got was wrapped with plastic and was made in Canada(or America). The old one was wider and heavier I think and looked more expensive.
So, I emailed Dana or Wix to find out if they are the same filters.
This is his reply. Got it 15months ago and was saved in my mail box.

You recently requested information regarding the differences between
Wix
Canadian and U.S. built filters. In most cases the filters are the
same as
both companies are related under the DANA name.
You may fine some differences in certain products due to different
Dana
manufacturing facilities. The Canadian Wix brand is manufactured
mostly in
Cambridge, Ontario and the Wix U.S. in Gastonia, NC. These
different
manufacturing facilities use different tooling to produce the same
filter.
To verify our specifications, we purchase several original
equipment
filters. We then perform a series of tests to ensure that our filters
meet
or exceed the original equipment.
The following filters all fall into the same family and are
all
interchangeable if room permits.
Short - 51334
Long - 51344
Fat - 51381
All Wix (Canada and U.S.) filters are manufactured to very precise
and
exacting design specifications. Every effort is made to insure Wix
filters
perform to the original equipment performance parameters. Our
company
(DANA) is a primary supplier to many of the world's leading
original
equipment manufactures. This position of leadership affords us
every
opportunity to have access to first hand information regarding the
many
constantly changing requirements and specifications of today's
flirtation
needs.
All Wix filters are covered by the finest, most comprehensive
written
warranty in the industry. We do not want nor do we expect anyone
else to
warrant the products we manufacture and provide to our customers.
Simply
stated, our warranty will provide our customers with full parts and
labor
reimbursement if one of our filters is determined by us to be the
direct
cause of system damage. All manufacture's warranties remain in effect
when
Wix filters are used as long as they are changed in accordance with
the
manufacture recommendations.
