Without causing your engine to sort of garp out? I'm currently coming up on a change and have M1 5W30 in there right now. I've been toying with the idea of changing to different brands of synths to see if one is quietere than the other etc....I was going to try Pennzoil Plat Plus for the next change and the Castrol, Valvoline , then Q etc...

Is this a really bad idea? fwiw the car is a 2005 Toyota Matrix 1.8L the 1zz engine, not the XRS engine

Thanks!

Let me add that my 1st change was at about 2800 miles when I went from the factory oil to the M1 and am coming up on my 5K change. So all that this car has seen is the Toyota factory oil and m1. Thanks

Nope, should not be any problem. In my Elantra, I have had factory fill (no idea what it is), Penzoil Dino (SJ), Mobil Drive Clean, German Castrol, Royal Purple, and now Mobil 1. I have noticed no difference between any of these oils. I have 3 more changes with Mobil 1 then I will be going back to GC for quite some time.

Removing even the regular M-1 after 2200 miles is a waste. I did my first switch to Mobil-1 at 3500... then changed it at 8500 -- 5K is what you should consider. So that means leaving it alone until your odometer reads 7800 miles.

If you are not using oil & the engine is as quiet as the factory-fill... keeping going with M-1. If all is well... leave well-enough alone!

Doh! Guess I meant to say I am following the 5k interval, coming up on 8K so it is time for the change, sorry for any confusion.

Many people try and change especially during seasons.5/40 summer 0/30 winter etc..If its been almost 90 degrees all summer and it averages 35 degrees in the winter the cold cranking 0/30 would benifit the average driver. Now switching back and forth to petroleum based oil is not a good idea I think. That is unless your doing a ARX cleaning.I have used Castrol Syntec,Amsoil 0/30 and 10/30,GC and now Valvoline 5w40. I plan on useing Synergyn 3/30 next for winter.

You can switch back an forth between syn oils and or petroleum based oils all you want with out any harm to the engine. A good 10w30 syn will work all winter and all summer in your Toyota. I wouldn't waste time or money trying to find the best oil . Just pick what ever syn or quality petrolium oil that is easy for you get and use it. If you choose under 5,000 mile oil change intervals don't waste money on syn oils .
