I just bought a 2006 ram mega cab 1500. It is built on a 2500 frame and the hemi does not have mds. I have 3cases of 5w30 Kendall gt1 synthetic oil and have no other use for it.....ok to try it in my truck?

That is correct. I had a 2006 Mega Cab and it called for 5-30. Loved the truck but the a/c could not keep up with the Florida heat.

keep it in recirculation mode and it will be nice and cold. My cuts in and out when in stop in go traffic if i'm in fresh air mode.

^this x2

My owners manual is for a 1500, and does not split out the mega cab...everything says 5w20......also the oil cap has 5w20 printed on it.

So, I am a bit confused....ugh

Yes, you can use 5W-30 in your Mega no problem. Chrysler spec'd 5W20 for all HEMI engines in 05 and 06 but 30 weight was spec'd before and after in the same engine. With no MDS 5W30 is just fine. Here are the oil spec's for 3rd Gen HEMI Rams...

03-04 = 5W-30 and 10W30 ( All Models )
05-06 = 5W-20 ( All Models )
07-08 1500's w/ MDS = 5W-20
07-09 2500/3500 less than 14,000 GVWR = 5W20
07-09 2500/3500 more than 14,000 GVWR = 5W30

Super...thanks....

We will be towing 7000 pounds an I just feel better with the 5w30 at higher rpms over hills

I would not worry one bit about the 5w30. Different engine but I have almost 100k miles on a chrysler 3.8l that was speced for 5w20. Even a couple changes of 10w30. The engine seems just fine.
