They posted this as a caution based on viscosity of oil which was 11.4. TBN was 9.3 Frankly, am dissapointed in this oil.

OIL ANALYSIS REPORT
Gasoline Engine
Unit No. Can AM Trike
Comment:
Engine wear rates appear satisfactory for first sample.
Silicon level (dirt/sealant material) satisfactory. Water
content acceptable. Viscosity low for specified oil grade.
Action: Resample next service interval to monitor and
establish wear trend. Please confirm grade of oil used in
this component.

12.5 is the min viscosity for 10w40.

Maybe try a 15w40 .. or something with a higher HTHS.

I'd say its not terrible, but it did fall out of grade.

LargeCar: yes the viscosity at 100deg Cent was 11.4 and TBN was 9.3

Rand: The BRP company peddles a syn/dino blend for summer but don't say want the weight of it is, and their winter oil is all syn...again no weight given. Some say its Castrol but not aware that Castrol makes a blend for motorcycles. The handbook calls for the above or a "5W-40 semi-syn (minimun) or synthetic motorcycle oil meeting Sg, h,j, or SL." They make a point of cautioning against use of any SM or clutch slippage will occur.

I've always been an Amsoil fan and if this wasn't the second report showing low viscosity, I'd think the report wrong.
With them specifying 5-40, I'm concerned about going with Amsoil 20-50 in order to get a higher HTHS, but dang it I hate changing oil every 3K miles as its a royal pain on this machine.

I'm thinking of trying Rotella T6 even tho theres been a report on the Can Am Forum that T6 5-40 caused some clutch slipping but since I prefer synthetic am tempted to try it anyway. It sure would be cheaper if it works out. Same report said clutch stopped when they changed to an approved oil.

It dropped to a 30 weight in 3,000 miles, thats really not that usual for a 10w40, depending on the bike.

You can run the old AMF 15w40 diesil Amsoil, its a few bucks cheaper too, thats what I ran over the 10w40.

THe newest Amsoil 20w50 motorcycle is some heavy duty stuff, but unless its a Harley, IMO too heavy for a Japanese bike, unless your just mixing a quart.

Changed oil and filters today. Went with half 10-40/half 20-50 Amsoil motorcycle oil. Will retest at 3000 miles to see how it compares.

Two hour job doing one of these critters!

I disagree.

We are running the Amsoil 20W-50 in our 3 [censored] and 1 Italian track bikes, it does a wonderful job. Motor tear downs look great.

Just to follow up: I put in 2 qts or 20-50 Amsoil with 2 1/2 of 10-40 and at 3K miles it gave a viscosity of 13.1, way better than previous 11.4 on 10-40 only. Thats the way I'm gonna go from now on, at least till it gets cold wx.
