Camaro Returns for MY2028?

Some credible reports/rumors today that some form of a “Camaro” returns in late 2027. To be built at Lansing Grand River, MI and on an updated Alpha chassis. This production is rumored to be alongside the next-gen Cadillac CT5 and an upcoming Buick sedan.

Quite possibly has available the new 6.7 liter LS6 V8 just announced for Corvette C8 Grand Sport.

I think they should just cancel the Blazer EV and reskin the Blazer EV SS as the Camaro. Because we need more mid size EV SUVs!

In all seriousness, I’m not sure what the point is. Nobody really buys Camaros. Sure, I think they’re cool, but not practical enough for me!
 
Corvette was the pinnacle, Camaro was the stepping stone.

The Camaro was the car for the younger performance masses, the Corvette was the next perch for them.

GM has a hole in the line-up and this should help - BUT - they can't price it out wrong. It's got to be a reasonable price or it will fail again.
 
I hope they improve the outward visibility. I like them, I always thought they were cool looking cars. But every time I've driven one, I had to hunch down with my neck looking like a dang vulture just too see outside and what's around me, and the door sill was too high to do anything with my left arm. The last one I drove, this is what it felt like:

For sure, my old '14 ZL1 had the worst visibility of any car I have owned. Was a fun car though!

Large platform cars still sell well outside of the US so it wouldn't surprise me if we get something GM designed for the chinese market. They still make the big cadillac sedan we havent had in a long time so they can just reuse that platform and have one line making them in north america somewhere without the full effort of designing a platform just for camaro in the US and maybe some export countries. Many don't know but 4 cyl tahoes are made in texas to be shipped to china so they can drive around in them. Weird stuff. I always wondered why the 4 cyl wasn't an option on the full sized suv's given that soccer moms aren't towing or truck racing like with silverados and spend more time idling in the grocery store parking lot and school pickup line.

Honestly making a 2wd base model Tahoe with the 2.7 would be a fantastic daily driver family vehicle as long as they don’t need to tow a bunch!

Just spit balling a bit... but GM sells ~4x as many silverados per year as tahoes in the US market. I imagine that is about the same with GMC. For the effort to fit the current 2.7 in, get the vehicle certed for the us market and then sell it alongside 3 other engine options probably doesn't make it a worth while venture. Figure it still uses the older 8 speed too. Though it is interesting the Chinese version is using both the 10 speed only and a lower output version of the 2.7. Test bed for US market later on perhaps? I see it happening sooner or later. The EPA credit may not be enough for it to be worthwhile pushing it just yet.

Another thing that comes to mind... it's used primarily in a base model/low option pickup... which is fine. If I paid base model prices for a tahoe and got that engine in it... well its in a vehicle where it's sins are less forgivable. I'd be a bit more pissed. It isnt an inherently smooth or quiet engine in the pickups and if I'm spending 60k+ they better have a lot more sound deadening in there than they have... in the 40k slot they typically are found in the trucks, its passable.

As much as everyone over 50 loves the vehicles that were designed in the mid sixties to very early 70's, it's time to move on from that design aesthetic.
People have been living in the past for way too many decades at this point, and you all need to realize that you grew up, and you all have great grandkids running around the place.

Let's get some new flares and curves on the sheet metal for once.

No one has built an exciting looking production vehicle in about 20 years. The last one that comes to mind is the 370z and even that was kind of flat. Not a dig against some awesome cars we've gotten in the time since but nothing jumps out or speaks to me as "I have to have it" if that makes sense.
 
GM Authority thinks it likely will start as a sedan, and likely not named “Camaro”. Then possibly a true 2-door “Camaro” later, based on the same Alpha 2-2 chassis.

I mean we all have our opinion. I think the 370z is ugly. But I think the Honda Prologue is the most beautiful car in the world. Especially in Pacific Blue!
