This is potentially the lamest thread ever started.

OP Doesn't even know what was wrong with the vehicle for crying out loud! "She felt something funny" and, "almost a victim of a very fatal accident", "factory recall of bearings and wheels", along with no pertinent TSB or recall information visible to those who care enough to look it up? One may as well tweet something like, "OMG! Cadillac SUX! Nissan FTW!" for the same effect that this thread has had in the world.

Assuming it is a front hub, they can't exactly fall apart with a axle bolted through them.

Yeah sounds like a slimy, exaggerating service writer. Although those guys do have to read the riot act on a daily basis to customers without any clue, so they often come across as being overly aggressive if they don't know you from Adam.

He probably uses the "wheels gonna fall off" angle for everything including bearings, tie rods, ball joints, struts, etc.
