My mom was almost the victim of a very fatal accident yesterday due to a factory recall of bearings and wheels on her SRX. They did not send anything to her and she pulled into the dealership after feeilng something funny. She thought it was the transmission but it still shifted smooth.

When she pulled it into the dealership the guy said it was the factory recall but she was on skid row because if she hadn't pulled in there the wheel would have come undone therefore rendering her vehicle out of her control.

I can't remember which recall it was but it was terrible. I wish they'd get these things right from the factory.

I'm looking at the various SRX recalls and don't see one that would cause the wheels to come off the car. The only thing that could cause that would be loose lugnuts/lugbolts.

I will have to get the full story from her again. From what I can remember something came loose (from the TSB) and then it was a domino effect which then (according to the bulletin) with long exposure can cause the wheel bearings to fail therefore rending the vehicle highly dangerous to drive.

Vehicles are made as quickly and as cheaply as possible now.The cost cutting is reaching stupid levels now.Spending $30-40K on a new bucket of wires and tinfoil is a waste in my opinion. You can have as many or maybe less issues with something older (and cheaper).

My mom had a completely problem-free Murano. That thing was pimp. But she wanted a Cadillac and for the most part it has treated her good - but now I think she's not so sure...

I warned her about GM obsolescense!

Or you can spend $10k and still buy an unknown vehicle with unknown history... there is no winning on this front.

AFAIK wheelbearings do not just up and die. They make noise for longer than you can stand before they get to the point of siezing. Or so I'm told--I just get them replaced once the diagnosis is made.

No duh. It's just that they seem to be the most common.

Step-dad has been a Chevy-exclusive fan since I was barely walking. Now that he manages a salvage yard/junk lot he is changing his outlook...

+1

Could not be stated better. Just some facts, man!

What's the difference between a "very" fatal and a "slightly" fatal accident, BTW?

Is this a new car, or a new-to-me car?

The slightly fatal one results in only a mild case of death.

I think the point of this thread is not death, it's that Cadillac plain out sucks.

As well as GM. ...but only mildly.

Like that?! There's some facts for you, straight from my mouth!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry you guys can't take this seriously. That's ok, I'm used to dealing with your type!

As stated earlier - bearings just do not explode and your tire falls off. They give plenty of warning such as noise and loose feeling. Face it - she simply drove the car while ignoring the signs and guess what - bearing are mostly made by the same manufacturer for many automakers...and they are a wear item that eventually needs replacement.

There is NO recall because there is no issue other than a person not maintaining or paying attention to their car.

No disrespect, but based on the vague information that you have so far provided, all we can do is laugh.

Please provide the actual detailed info about the specifics of the recall as well as what was wrong with the car and what got fixed. Then we can talk more seriously.

I have been unable to find any bulletins in my GMSI that jive with what you are telling us. Do we have any TSB number or any other information on this fatality causing recall to legitimize your claims here yet?

I checked eSi also and there is nothing. This is [censored].

You really have to wonder if viral marketing or guerrilla marketing outfits post such things on the web to damage the reputation of the competition....It wouldn't surprise me one bit.

The biggest question is....who is the client purchasing the services?

GM was really quick about alerting me and other owners to the totally over-blown recall about sloppy oil changes causing engine fires. And that was on a fleet of $17-25k Chevys! With a big-buck Cadillac, they'd be practically knocking on your door to drive it to the dealer to get fixed while dropping off a loaner.

I smell bashing. Unless more details are provided, in which case I will publicly retract my statement.
