The last oil/filter change, I put in a Purolator Premium Plus L20195. I noticed that it has the coil spring/button bypass valve. In the past I have heard that some Purolator filters has the cardboard end caps. I was wondering if it's possible to have coil spring/button bypass valve with the cardboard end caps or does it only work with the metal end caps. I just hate to cut up a good filter just to see if it has the metal or card boards end caps.

I'm pretty sure Pureolator hasn't had cardboard caps ever, but I could be wrong

some purolators have cardboard end caps, but I can't tell you which designs or what features they have. Why not use one and then cut it open?

The cartridges with cardboard endcaps only have cardboard caps that seal the pleated portion, there is a metal plug/end (leaf spring componant) that would contain that bypass valve. Looking down the center hole you cannot see the cardboard part. If you are concerned about it, just cut it up after you do the oil change. I cut them up routinely...you never know when things may change on you...never hurts to verify things every now and then.

The 20195 has metal end caps. The bypass is a button of some sort. Like a hard fiber or the stuff the make pc boards with.
Typically Frams are the ones that have cardboard end caps.

That should cross reference the FL400s ( you might want to check ) It is a much better filter and can be had for about 3.49 at AZ

I was going to say that you could try a Super Tech ST3600 too, but after looking at a few Ecore versions yesterday at WalMart, I have to say it looks like Champion Labs took a giant leap backward in quality control with the new Encore design. Looking inside you could see where the media pleats were all bunch up on one side, while the other side had big gaps between the pleats. All three of the ones I looked at had this flaw. Further, the bypass valve is just a flap of (silicone?) rubber. It's sad to see the corporate cost cutting craze destroy what was once a quality filter and a bargain to boot.
