+1 on the Havoline Smart Change box

Valvoline Advanced 5-30 was my “house” oil for a while when it was $22/5 qts. Now it’s one of the most expensive synthetics.

I’ve noticed Havoline 6qt boxes have crept up a few $ as well. I bet lots of folks are switching to the less expensive brands and price will go up for those too. Signs of the times…

heartbreaking about Valvoline being sold. it was my go to oil for EVERYTHING. not anymore. ill search for a USA made product.
So i wonder what Napa will do now. they used to use valvoline products. wonder if those relationships and the one with cummins will change.

Not much more and you can get HPL oils @High Performance Lubricants if you want an Ultimate level oil. There is no "best" but HPL is one of them.

Overall it's a lot more depending on OCI. I'm not challenging you on HPL as I've looked into them and I do believe they have a product above and beyond the average oil. But let's get to the issue. I'm using Mobil 1 EP and Pennz Plat in 5-30 at a cost of about $28 for 5 quarts. My OCI is 8k with a Fram Ultra filter. I'm not comfortable going past 8k so I don't feel HPL is providing me anything over Mobil 1 or Pennz Plat. Can you provide any data that proves it's better for the additional cost?

And I'm honest and open. You could make the same argument to me that many other oils that I mentioned could do the same with my parameters.

You should also not drive any fossil-fuel-powered vehicle either if that's the case. ;)

Luckily my gas gets to me through pipelines from SoCal/New Mexico, I don't think I'm getting any mideast crude here. And perhaps I shouldn't, but that's not a welcome topic here, lol

Edit: for clarification I'm not even die-hard anti mideast or anything. Valvoline is just an easy choice for me to make. We all pick our hills to die on I guess

Since I change the oil in my wife's car at 5,000 mile intervals, I'm going to have to move on to a new oil, probably Super Tech...I can't justify the price....View attachment 115221

Wanted to add...I'm not trying to smack ya here but why an extended performance oil for 5k? I confess I use Mobil 1 EP in my F150 5.0 and do a yearly change that is often only 7-8k. I do know I would get the same protection from Mobil 1 5-30 but for me the added $3 is a no brainer since I do my own changes. What is your logic?

Maybe I’m wrong, but I thought the Valvoline EP wasn’t a long drain oil like say M1 EP or Castrol EP, but it has more AW and what not for more wear protection.

It is more expensive than M1 and the others no doubt, but maybe some people think it is worth it for the added protection? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I like the Valvoline for it's Moly content...Main reason I started using it

You're correct. Valvoline EP stands for "Extended Protection" meaning it has a stronger add pack (300+ppm moly).

Well the SuperTech is like $20.00 for a 5 quart jug, my thought is that oil is cheaper than Steel. I can remember when I could get PP for like $18.99 a 5 quart jug.

Look, if you dont care about the car, use the cheapest oil, but if you kind of care about the car, then use something that is good.

Quaker State and Pennzoil is owned by those **** Brits 😧

But on a more serious note - I'd likely purchase oil from an American company that's owned by our cousins across the pond than oil from an American company owned by the Saudis.

But that's just me.

When I buy oil, it kind've depends on my mood when I get to the store that day haha. I have a jug of QSFS to go in my Z, and a jug of M1 to go in my Accord:D
