buying add packs

are we really buying the add pack when we purchase an oil? base stocks are pretty obscure for most conventional and semi-syns right?

what makes one add pack better than another? they all seem to be basically the same except some have moly and some dont.

Who makes the best conventional with the strongest add pack and what makes a TBN last longer than a competitors oil.

arent there just a few add pack suppliers for all the brands of oil?

Mobil Clean 5000 and Havoline are a couple of conventionals with some good addy packs.
Petroleum Quality Institute of America these guys are pretty honest I think. Check out the majors (or minors). These would be additive packs from Infineum and Oronite respectively.

I don't know about buying add packs.

Each major label has their own add pack and it appears that they also have an add pack for oils they package for others under "private labels".

As far as additonal addd packs go....I add some Tuf oil to my motor oil at each OCI. I know that Tuf Oil is loaded with Moly and other ingredients and have not had a problem with it at any time.

Well I wouldn't say all base oils are the same. There are for example a bunch of different grades and quality of PAO. Then of course there's Group III and III+.
