Building my home

Sounds like a good deal from painter.

After the home is built....

OT
Went from frost in the morning yesterday to 80 degrees. These temperature extremes wear me out!

Great! It really gets fun once the walls start going up.

I've spent hours pulling wire. I didn't realize how much work it really takes to pull wire. I'm running 3 Cat-5e and 2 RG6 coax to each outlet and I've got 10 outlets. The slow part is that I pull 1 coax with 2 Cat-5e then go back and pull 1 coax with 1 Cat-5e. So I run 2 separate pulls for 10 outlets. This is because the hole drilled through the studs isn't big enough for all 5 cables so I drill 2 holes and run the cable in 2 parts. It's rewarding in the end though.

The concrete company roughed in the forms today right as compaction test came in as passed. Phew! Now the plumber needs to do his rough in and pass inspection. The concrete people will come out and final out the forms, set steel and vapor barrior. The termite treat will be done right before that. So as we speak we are about 3 days ahead on a 1.5 week old job. The task is to get the truss people to fill in a gap that is developing in May.

I have to check the layout of forms and make sure everything is where it should be. Also need to check diagonals. Will have all dimensions needed for plumber so that I can verify with him that all supplies and waste is in right location. I need to also get all anchor bolts and other necessary inbeds prepared for the pour.

All said it took 8 men 5 hours to complete rough-in of slab.

Pics to follow later.

Pics of the roughed in forms are up! Checked the layout and everything is fine. One discrepency is the front setback is 50'-4" instead of 50' even. I will check with them on that. Side setback is good at 50'. Diagonal is perfect! I will check elevations when the final setting is done.

Anyone following this or am I dictating to myself?

Ahhhh, it saves me a step...

I'm here for you! Been waiting for your progress.

Can't wait to see your pour. I'm really interested in it the way you described it. Doesn't sound like anything I've seen around here.

My siding is finally on and if the $%&# wind would stop the roofing will go on. I'm getting a metal roof and they don't want to get up there with long sections of wind sail, er roofing, in the high winds. Most of the tar paper is gone now. I hope to beat the rains by the weekend then we can schedule the drywall.

Doug,

Looks nice! Better get that roof dried back in before the rains hit.

Just waiting for the plumber to get out there and we can get ready to pour it.

Finally finished the low voltage wiring. I also put insulation in my home office walls for noise abatement. My builder said no one around here insulates interior walls for sound. We did on the last house and it makes a big difference. My in-laws house isn't insulated and you can hear everything all the way across the house. They insulated my upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms but forgot the office so I did it. They start dry walling this week if all goes as planned.

When is the pour?

Doug,

The pour should be this week if everything goes as planned. This concrete company is quick!

I may insulate my bedroom wall that faces the breakfast nook since my bed backs up to that wall.

That has to be right. Kind of hard to fix mistakes under tons of concrete.

My basement bathroom drain is currently under a 4 inch slab. They forgot to box it out before the pour. They now have to cut it out so I can get to it after I move in. Oh the trials of homebuilding.

D,

You don't want to here a chipping hammer on a construction site.

I double check all their work so hopefully the mistakes are caught.

Pics are up of plumbing first rough-in. It was passed by inspector today as well as the temporary power pole.

Looking good. It's interesting that your stacks and drains are sticking up so high. Mine were just a couple feet out of the slab. Is this because you are on a crawl space?

My top roof is finally done and the drywall has been delivered. I hope they start the drywall tomorrow. Can't go fast enough.

No crawl space. The vent stacks will eventually be extended through the roof or in the cabinet. By code they are to be about 4-5 foot above slab on initial rough-in.

I know the feeling about not going fast enough however, the notice of commencement was just completed 4/07/06. We are doing pretty decent for 4 days!

So you are ready for the ROCKERS?

I forgot about your monolithic slab. You are starting quick on yours. I had my permits in place about 30 days before they broke ground and poured the basement. I then waited another 30 before they could start framing.

If by ROCKERS you mean the drywall guys then yes. Rockers would be a good description for the guys that did my last house. This is because it smelled like a rock concert when they left in the evenings. That funny 5 leaf tobacco if you know what I mean.

Yes you know the rockers! They will move quick though and get it done.

Hopefully we will pour the slab early next week.

Doug,

Its looking real nice! I bet you can't wait to move in. Where do you change the oil in the barn?
grin.gif

The slab will sit for about 2 weeks then the block layers will start. Hopefully we will get this slab poured the end of next week.

Thanks! We can't wait to move in!

Since we turned the garage into living space I'll have to wait a couple years to build detached garage. The bank is kind of broke right now.

I've got a local garage that will use my oil and filter and do the labor for $13. Works for me.

Waiting the two weeks will be tough. It was for me. I just want to see it progress every day.

A: The drywallers will finish hanging rock tomorrow. It will be late next week (or later) before they finish the taping and mudding. I have to pick some rock for the foundation tomorrow so the guy can start Thursday. We decided we don't like the rock we chose before.

I need about 1000' of trim, do you have some time in your schedule to make some wide boards for my base & windows?
cheers.gif
My builder asked if I wanted to start priming it or should he get the pre-primed (real wood). It's about an extra $0.10/ft for primed. I said spend the extra $100 and save me the work.
