BUILD America 250 Act - EV Tax

Sounds good to me! They aren't paying gas tax (local and federal) for the infastructure so they need to contribute since they're using them. I think it should be more because it, for example, the total gas tax is $0.50 a gallon - that $150 is only 260 gallons which is around 10 fill ups on average.

I'd be interested in discussion for repealing all the fuel taxes and charging a yearly tax based on mileage and type/size/weight of vehicle..
but there is always a loophole somewhere.

What about that 9000lb Rivian that does taxi service for 70000 miles a year.. $130 pft.

or the retired guy with a bolt who drives 2000miles... $130 for that is wrong the other way.

but with the large disparity in how taxes are collected in each state.. no nationwide bandaid can be accurate or totally fair.

It would be nice to buy tax free gas and diesel for mowing.. but the only off road diesel place near me has really bad hours of operation and barely cheaper.

"Which brings us back to the big question: When will it actually be done?
According to NJDOT, major construction should wrap up by 2028, although some planning documents hint that smaller finishing touches could stretch out to 2032."

hahah even worse than I thought.

Let's get some engineers and scientists in government. Less Lawyers. This isn’t working....🥴

Hahaha. This is a federal tax not state and federal. The federal tax is $.18/gal. Besides why make them pay more of they're driving less miles?

States, like Texas, are already floating of have instituted a annual fee which is well in excess of what someone would pay in state tax for an avg car.

States have already started to do this. In my home state of MN for example, we now pay a minimum of $150 a year on EVs and $75 a year on Plug In Hybrids in addition to standard registration taxes. Its actually more than that for newer EV's and Plug in Hybrids. As a comparison point, what I pay on my Plug In Hybrid Fusion is equivalent to the MN fuel tax I pay in 4500 miles of driving my F150.

MN will also be adding 5 cents a kilowatt tax from public charging stations starting in 2027. It doesn't do anything about electricity charged at home, but its a start.

I'd be curious what the actual mechanism to collect this US tax/fee would be since your registration is not with the US government...

It has taken (not even completed) 20 years to fix a merge of 295 and Rt 42 in my area. Was projected to last about 5 years I think originally. Still not finished. What. A. Joke. China would have had it done in 2 days.

All those construction guys deserve their boat payments and shore houses too. Hey, you could have opened a construction company and made that money too! America is the land of opportunity you know!

Will I ever get from 130s to 295 s without crossing six lanes of traffic?
