That much dirt in any engine is going to cause elevated numbers. You need to start over especially with the inverted TBN and TAN numbers. Check the air intake circuit and put in new filters and a fresh fill of the same oil. Get every drop of the old oil out to help clean things out.

Thanks for doing the experiment. I do not have any cars to play with so I have to just stick with the most reasonable and safe grades.

I have a feeling that I have a moly slug/mass sitting in the pan producing much of the baseline noise. It's probably entrained a good amount of other things that we see here in its formation.

I've already rounded up all of the usual suspects on airborne infiltration. If it continues, I'll be doing more in depth surgery. That is, what is apparently sound will be replaced where sensible. I'm doing a draconian double dose Auto-Rx treatment as we post. I'll leave it in as long as my patience allows. I'll probably do a filter swap. I may even do some solvent flush just before draining and will probably use a flush oil to assure that I get that out too. I do have enough product to use the same fluid for any flushing. I guess in a big picture view it's unlikely to ever truly need this fluid and that one sacrificial sump for purity in testing would not be a waste. They're all sacrificial sumps from a certain point of view.

But let us keep in mind that this is not an unlikely situation for any oil to encounter in the field. If true double blind testing were to take place for any lubricant it may end up in an engine just like this ..warts and all. So, I don't consider it a failure in all regards. It stifles clear view, surely.

I'm happy to do something interesting here on the board. I've surely run into good fortune running into Bruce. Without his contribution, as much as he discounts it, all of this would not be possible.

While I don't think that we're going to revolutionize the market, we may get a glimpse of things to come. I've always been an excessive/obsessive contrarian ..always going counter culture on schools of thought ...or perhaps exploring more radical tangents off of the mainstream. I just cannot follow convention ..even if it kills me.

Normally I'd say 'buy a clean beater' ..but it would require someone who would be willing to drive it. It would be a tough choice with what you have sitting there already

..but let us not discount your departures from conventional schools of thought on the matter. It's one thing for me to explore this on an informed risk basis (of which, I truly see little) with an engine that can be replace with a short block for peanuts (although I surely wouldn't welcome the expense). It's quite another potentially having to crate up your car (for the "peace of mind" factor) and send it back to Italy.
