Broke a Strut today.

Went over an inclined driveway and heard a bang, figured I ran over a bottle or something but realized a bit down the road something was wrong. Looks like the mount or spring has broken, still drivable but very sketchy feeling so had it towed. Luckily I was only about 4.5 miles from home and not 30 miles away in downtown Boston.

We have a bomb cyclone coming this weekend so it's going to be a rush to repair it before the snow starts. Strut ordered for next day so it will get here Friday. Going to remove the busted one tomorrow to speed things up.

At least now I got that sick camber yo!

Are the bolts are the knuckle loose? Or did the strut physically break toward the bottom?

Be very careful removing it. I had a Volvo 240 that broke somewhere in the spring mount. Removing the strut assembly mounting bolts released the spring pressure because of where it broke. If I was under it, it would have killed me. Ended up with a knot the size of a golf ball on my hand.

Pretty clean break, looks like the top of the piston broke right off in the mount. Whole strut fell right apart on disassembly.
