I'm planning to purchase a brand new 2006 Scion xB (auto) in the next 1-2 months. It has the 1NZ-FE (1.5L) engine
I'm already thinking about what kind of oil and filters I should use.
I'd like to follow Toyota's recommendation - change oil and filter every 5,000 miles. Should I use regular dino oil or synthetic for a 5,000-mi OCI? I plan to use a 5w-30 oil (as per Toyota's recommendation)
I'd like to give it the best protection possible to prevent any sludge, varnish or contaminant buildup inside the engine. I want that engine's insides to look brand new 10 years from now (wishful thinking)
I was leaning more towards Mobil 1 5w-30 synthetic. It's easily available everywhere, and I can get it for about $4.15/qt if I buy a 6-qt case at Costco.
I was also planning to use either a Supertech ST4967 filter (Wal-Mart brand) or the Valucraft V4967 filter (Autozone brand). I did some reading and found out they come from the same filter manufacturer (Champion) and offer great performance at really low prices. They are also both easily available to me.
I plan to keep the car for as long as I can (7-10 years at least, maybe even more). It will be my daily driver. I live in Los Angeles, CA so we really don't experience any extreme heat or cold.
I drive about 15,000mi./year. One way to work is about 20-25 miles, although I might be moving soon, so that may be reduced in half. I travel about 30% city/70% highway, with some moderate stop and go traffic (Los Angeles traffic SUCKS
)
What do you guys think? Any opinions and suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
