I am hearing more about this oil and wondered if anyone knows much about it. What I can find seems to be geared to racing but they do have some regular oils too. Does not seem to be synthetic but could be called Group III I think. Would they work well for extended oci's though? Don't know much about the add packs but they do claim higher zinc.

Brad Penn oils are synthetic blends. Brad Penn is what became of the Kendall refinery in Bradford, Pennsylvania after Conoco-Phillips bought the name some years back. Their oils are all high in zddp content, so are more for older cars and racing applications. The zddp content is actually higher than Valvoline VR1 conventional. I have run Brad Penn in my lawnmower and didn't have any problems. All of their oils except for the 0w30 have TBN's of 10.6, so they could be good for extended change intervals. My main knock against them are the relatively low flash points of ~400F. Maybe that would mean high oil consumption?

it might be thats just a minimum flashpoint and the actual isnt listed.

Its a good regional oil for specific uses.

I've been running Brad Penn 10w40 in my Forester since the motor got rebuilt as per my engine builder's recommendation, and I've seen no oil consumption, but I've only been doing 3,000 mile OCIs. I plan on switching to a full conventional once I run out. One thing for sure is that this stuff is thick.

Not all of the Brad Penn oils are a synthetic blend. I checked some time ago and the 10w40 was a blend. It would be worth an email to check.

The 20W-50 is not a synthetic blend; the 10W-40 Motorcycle oil is a synthetic blend.
