NJ folk have been protesting and are going to begin boycotting BP products(gas and oil). Wonder how this is going to play out?

It will last until the price of their products dips below the competition.

There will be those who do this and thank the protesters. There will those who will do this and rationalize that they hurt BP by forcing them to sell cheaper ..and that they're there to collect on the booty.

So, about 5 minutes.

hah

Some cheap oil perhaps?

Supposedly in Edison NJ. Funny thing is, my parents live in Wayne and BP Corporate is literally 2-3 minutes down the road. Wonder if anything is going on there.

Fox 5 and other news agencies just reported it at the time of my posting.

Washington took a week before taking any action and then took the wrong action (should have started burning it off). If this had been the previous President, Michael Moore would have already started making a movie and the mainstream media would be all over it. Maybe we should protest our elected officials.

BP and the oil spill are not the problem. Only symptoms of the real problem, which is our ongoing, and worsening, petroleum addiction. We in the US should take a cue from the Brittish, and practice some good, old fashioned self-loathing. ;-)

I don't know, I think BP has handled itself well during this disaster - they've been pretty up-front that they are responsible for paying for the clean up.

They've actually gained quite a bit of respect in my books......

I agree, as of now they haven't done or at least nothing has been shown that they've done anything worth boycotting their products over. That may change however, in the meantime I will continue putting BP in my car.

...and regarding the boycott, the protesters should not buy products from any oil company that ever had a spill. They will have to give up driving altogether.

Well it was more like 20. If you figure there will probably be more or probably not. I agree that they are handling it well, but people as you all know take up arms against something they know very little about, throw opinions around and demand action.

I'm just wondering how much longer, given that the oil has already began to drift towards the floor.

BP own the turf of the spill, and should pay up for the fix...which is what they appear to be doing, and have been doing from the get go.

The boycotters need to be square in their own minds what they are boycotting BP for :
1) Having an incident ?
2) Failing to respond ?
3) Because they are oil industry ?

1) and 3), and I don't think people living in scavenged tin shanties, and reading via a jar of fireflies will have much effect on BP.

2) they are wrong, the response and acceptance of responsibility has been IMO something truly astounding.

Fuel products come from a tank farm in the local area and who knows what brand the stuff is? The only people that get hurt in during things like this is the poor guy that has the station. Is trying to make a living.

And protesting a brand is just goofy, it's rarely the same as the stuff that came out of the ground. And what if Exxon pumped crude that valero refined, went on a BP pipeline to a Citgo station owned by a Boy Scout?

What will come of all this in Jersey? Self serve?
lol.gif

Oh god no! If we get self serve there will be longer lines. People don't know how to pump their own gas.

I remember my first time going to NY and didn't know it was self serve, i waited and waited and then finally I glanced at the sign lol. Cake.
