I've been doing research for the past 5 months about my first hand gun. It came down to the Glock 17 and 19. While I was visiting my wife's uncle he showed me his Springfield XD-M 40. I picked it up and it felt just right. I shot off about 50 rounds and I knew this would be the gun. I wasn't sure about the .40 since I wanted a 9mm. So today I picked the XD-M9. Everything I've read about the XD-M vs the Glock is, which one fits better and more comfortable with since the are both great guns. This is the full size, black finish. Here's some pics:

From what I've read the difference is, the "match" barrel, changeable back grip. and very few minor things. It's not that much of an upgrade from what I've been told by current XD owner.

Many police departments use the .40 S&W. It's a good caliber which fits nicely between the 9mm and the .45 power-wise.

I believe they also shortened up the reset in the trigger, which is pretty long on the original guns.

XD's are awesome! We have two .45's and a .40 S&W in the family. Just as you, I shot a Glock and then an XD and I shot so much better with the XD. The grip angle is better.

Nice gun; the .40 S&W is very popular, and ammo is no problem to find. Just make sure you do your FTF and double feed drills on a regular basis with snap-caps. People with autos have to keep those skills fresh.

Firearm is not made in the US. No problem and I'd HATE to see this thread get derailed....

To the OP. Excellent weapon and good choice! I've done Glocks when they came out and went to S&W M&P. Got my first XD this year and love it!

Be safe!

American company but it's made in Croatia.

BTW: EXCELLENT customer service IF you need it! I've dealt with them on my 1911 and they went well beyond IMO.

I'd have to say that except a few smaller companies everyone in the Firearm biz (Ruger, S&W, Springfield and Bushmaster) have been fantastic.

Will not talk about Taurus..

Thanks, Bill. Another thing that sold me was the warrenty

Dad has the XD in 9mm and the XDm in .45 - both fine guns. I agree with bill that the 9mm is the way to go for a shooter. Cheaper and easier on the hands, though the large XDM is perfectly fine with recoil.
