Two month update.....
After a couple months and 1600 miles I have had a chance to get settled with my new Tundra.
PROS- Pretty much a list of the reasons that I bought it which include comfort, power, tech, differential locker, handling, capabilities and overall competence. I also love the power rear window which is a feature that other trucks have too but that I've never had before. I'm still averaging 21mpg although I haven't towed yet.
NEGATIVES- The center console seems like an afterthought, it's big but oddly designed and I'm not a fan. This thing has the turning radius of the Queen Mary. I expected this to a point because it's a big truck but pulling into tight areas requires forethought.
The radio volume control knob is small and at the lower left corner of the info screen and I keep touching the screen with my finger and changing screens while adjusting the volume. I know that there is volume adjustment on the steering wheel but old habits die hard.
OBSERVATIONS- Overall I am really happy with it. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I probably would have been fine with another Tacoma since it would have been more than enough to handle my towing and hauling needs. But I'm 6'-5" tall and I can afford the bigger truck and now that I'm in my 60s I wanted the extra room in the cab and comfort. I actually have the driver's seat set one notch up from all the way back which is unusual for me.
I have added mudflaps and floor mats and I am trying to decide whether I want a bed cap or tonneau cover. The truck is scheduled to be undercoated with fluid film next week and the engine hasn't imploded yet.
I will change the oil at 5000 miles and get the free dealer oil change at 10,000 miles. The spec oil grade is 0w-20 but I was going to go with Pennzoil 5w-30 UP but am now leaning towards Mobil1 0w-40. Thoughts?
