Bought a 2023 Palisade today

Be aware that the LED backup lights and LED tag lights may interfere with the view from the backup camera, at night.

That doesn’t appear to be the case, based on location. The backup camera appears to protrude away from the lighted area and the reverse lights aren’t even close.

I opted for the brightest reverse LEDs from diode dynamics in a warmish white color. 6k is fine. I like to be as visible as possible when I’m backing up, especially during the day. I don’t think that’s a problem for the OP and others with those large, bright freaking brake lights! Lol

To be fair, the OP did start a thread to gloat about his new purchase. If you come to gloat you should expect to hear other people’s viewpoints. That’s just how it is.
So posting about the acquisition of a new vehicle now constitutes “gloating”? And therefore that justifies the sanctimonious tut-tutting from the bitterly envious peanut gallery?
I really did luck out in that they didn’t discover my recent thread. Although I did expect it…

Wife and I rented a Palisade for a week during a vacation a couple years ago. We really liked it, a very nice vehicle. It was a free upgrade from what we had booked, and was a nice complement to our vacation.

What dealer? A friend bought a Telluride recently and it had a hefty markup added to it. Fairfax/Chantilly area.

Browns manassas Hyundai on 28 right next to ihop. My wife must have called 10-15 dealers and they all had markups. Some even as high as 7,500 in some places. We seriously lucked out for this to be an MSRP only dealer 20 mins away from our house.

For what it’s worth, I didn’t come here to gloat at all. Just sharing a POSITIVE experience we had buying a car.

The people here with their heads on straight realize that- but there are always a few that utterly despise the fact that there other people who are enjoying their life.

It always has been considered gloating.
I too consider it gloating if it's decently expensive. It's why I didn't make a post when i bought my 2021 Escalade esv in the premium luxury trim in 2020. I didn't see it as appropriate because of how expensive it is and I too kind of see it as being pretentious. No one likes a show off whether they intended to or not. I Just added it to my signature instead. I believe i only posted 1 picture of it on a thread about posing any black vehicles owned on here since it's black, though i wish i would've gotten silver funny enough.

Yeah but in general anyone who goes out to show something nice whether they intended to show off or not is gonna get called a show off. Though what constitutes showing off says more about the one complaining.

Maybe by your definition.
You'd stroke out if you followed another board I'm on. We keep track of how many cars we all have purchased on an annual basis. Out of around 15 members, the final number was 41- and none of them were anodyne penalty boxes. I was on the verge of being kicked out since I hadn't bought a car since November of 2018. Fortunately, last month's vehicle purchase kept me in good standing.

The attorney that my wife works for thinks the same way. He is a bit of a car guy but feels uneasy spending the money on them. My wife convinced him to buy a Bentley that he's been coveting for a long time. Now he has two of them. One at his vacation home.

I live in a rural county and when I bought my 1973 Bavaria back in 1983 there were only 2 other BMWs in the county(a 1974 2002 and a 1981 320i).
It never was an issue, even when I was involved in politics. In my last election my opponent tried to make a big deal about my working as a product specialist at a BMW dealer but it didn't help her. People knew was a car nut and had always owned BMWs and they simply didn't care.

Enjoy the new SUV and ignore any bickering.

That why I didn’t post about my new sports car on here….

I havd some life long friends that from the beginning would share their car purchase with me and I with them. These day they buy Ferraies and fancy BMWs etc. I enjoy them showing me them and the benefit is I get to test drive them. I buy Ford or Toyota pick ups for the past 40 something and I show them and they want to test drive them so theydo. I will say thanks for sharing and I do not consider it gloating.

I never noticed Palisades much before. Got stuck near one in traffic weeks back and thought that's a good-looking SUV. Maybe a little try-hard from the front, but plenty of vehicles overdo it in some way such as the Transformer-looking Honda Civics and every Mercedes Benz with the cartoonishly-large emblem on the front.

That's a chunk of change.
Oh please, two of the cars in my signature cost more than their Hyundai.
People like what they like, and if they are willing to pay the price, let them enjoy their car.
So it's not a chunk of change?

Car prices are not going to comeback to precovid prices. We paid $30k for a 2020 Rav4 XLE premium. Saw a 2019 with 60k miles at the dealership today for $38k. Anything nice is going to be a chunk of change. Or $40k is the new $30k.

Why are some of you trying to suck the jelly out of the OPs donut?

If you consider this gloating, kindly ignore the thread and refrain from posting. This isn’t a financial advice thread. Most of us spend a percentage of our income on something that isn’t the best practical choice, because it makes us happy.

Important context: the tone of the OP isn’t one of gloating. He doesn’t poop on other cheaper car posts, so there is no argument for tit for tat. The OP also isn’t spending a lot of money after posting over and over about his financial hardships, where pointing out the obvious might (MIGHT) be justified. Your displeasure with his choice to post solely based on the cost of the vehicle is ridiculous and petty.

The ridiculous and petty posts are more from the people going after the people who "critiqued" the price.

Someone said, "That's a chunk of change," and the OP says it sure is, everything costs a lot now, and no way were the wife and I going to buy the other vehicle that cost even more. I don't think the person meant anything rude by it and was just making a quick comment on the ever-increasing price of vehicles. And OP didn't go off about the comment and instead handled it like a pro -- OP's friendliness diffused what could have turned the thread ugly even if the person had bad intentions with the comment, (which I don't think the person did).

Someone else said, "That's more than my mortgage!" That made me laugh. That just seemed a funny way to say, "Man, vehicle prices are out of control."

Other than one post I think went over the line, I'd say the price critique posts were either amusing or no big deal.

The posts that really turned this thread nasty are the ones going overboard about minor price comments. There's even posts of "hey why are you noticing the price?" even though this is a discussion forum and OP said the price in the first post.

I don't think OP is gloating. Showing off, or whatever nicer-sounding word someone might use, maybe. What else would someone call it. And that's fine. It's fun, and isn't pompous like someone doing a humble-brag. My complaint about the OP is not having a good picture ready. If you post about your new vehicle, you have to post a good picture of it. It's a rule.
