I guess you could say I ended up with these filters by mistake. I ordered them thinking they would be an oversize version for my '04 Honda Odyssey which takes a PH7317. The PH7317 is a tiny filter used on a lot of imports (Nissan, Honda, etc.) in engines of all sizes (small 4 cyl's all the way to V8's). It has a 20mm x 1.5 thread size, of which there is not a whole lot of substitutes.
I found the Fram PH3985 to be a good oversize filter for this vehicle-- the gasket size is larger, but the filter mount has plenty of room for it, and it fits nicely and is about 60% larger. This Bosch filter in question was shown to be a PH3985 equivalent according to RockAuto's website (I looked up a 1989 Eagle Premier; the PH3985 was used on Renault's PRV V6 engine). Instead it's less than half the height of a true PH3985, although it still fit the van nicely.
I used it on a short 4-5k OCI and it looks like it held up well. I'm guessing the media capacity is about the same as what I would have gotten with a PH7317 equiv, so probably no performance / filtration penalty there. Let me know what you think.
