I have used Bosch Premium filters for several years now on several engines (4.9L Ford 6, 5.0L Ford V8, 5.7L Jeep Hemi) I feel they are a good compromise pricewise, as a alternative to K&N or Mobil 1. I found Mobil 1 to be a knocker on startup with 5.0L Ford (?!!!) which was surprising, and removed it after a couple days. All engines have had less that 50,000 miles.Yes, I do pre fill the filter before installation.Always used 5/30, or now 5/20 due to MDS in Hemi.
The Bosch anti drainback valves work great, never a knock upon startup. Having proper well made threading, they spin on and off smoothly.
Perhaps the availability hinders a wider acceptance?
I get mine at Autozone.(They don't offer Pure One)
Any thoughts on the Bosch "Premium", and perhaps who manufactures this filter?

Punch in "clicker by-pass" in search mode and see what comes up

The cheaper Bosch filters are made by Champ, and maybe the better ones. Made by doesn't mean the same as. And yes, Champ is using clickers on many of their non Ecore models including the 3950 I use. The clicker is a dome end bypass, which I don't like. Otherwise, I have yet to see any objective proof clickers are a problem. A lot of ''Don't see how they work.'' and ''Don't like the looks of them.'', but if you do a search, I doubt you will find any proof of a problem.

Champ doesn't make "cheaper" Bosch filters.

They make filters approved by Bosch under a private label agreement. Bosch has the choice of the various Champ constructions and medias.

btw..Collie..you might want to try the new Mobil 1 extended life filter. You probably won't have the same problem..

I like the Bosch Premium filters. The US-made Bosch Premium 3422 (oversized filter for Toyota/Lexus V6 and V8) uses spring-type bypass.

Been using BOSCH since the 80s on various cars I owned including my Accord, never gave me any trouble, worked nicely with M-I.

On my Jeep 4.0L engine the Bosch Premium with the "clicker" by-pass gave me horrendous dash lights-a-flashing/beepers-a-beeping on cold morning starts! Two mornings of that and off it went and a filter with a real by-pass went on...NAPA Gold...never happened again.

Poster kreativ says the Premium is American & has a spring-type bypass.

Greaser says they are clicker bypass.

I know Bosch has two different filters.. regular & premium. Auto Zone sells both under the "Duralast" label name now.

So who here has the right answer to this?

Easy enough to tell. Pull one off the shelf and look inside. Black plastic cage, Ecore. Metal tube with a distinct circle of small holes in the dome end end cap, a clicker.

Letters stamped on the base plate, made by Champion Labs. I think they make both the Duralast and regular Bosch.

I used Bosch Premium exclusively for about 5 years on all my cars until switching to Amsoil's filters. Never had a problem, felt they were the best for the money. Never have had any problems with any Bosch product (plugs/wires/misc. ignition).

I said the US-made Bosch Premium 3422 has a spring bypass...not that all Bosch Premium filters are made in the US with spring bypass. I've seen both US and Mexico-made Bosch Premium filters with clicker bypass. It seems the spring bypass is more common on their larger filters.
