Can you imagine that happening under you if you're were in a marine vessel!

Well, that takes Tonga off the list of potential retirement locations. Then again, future real estate development potential is high.

Thanks for that! Awesome photos there!

I was fascianted with Volcanos when I was younger. I remember vaguely when the eruption of Mount St. Helens was a big deal, and some of those shots look like the ones from when MSH blew its top at the very start. Great stuff!

I bet it was loud in that boat!

From the Google Map it looks like the plate Tonga is on is above the plate West of it. So I think the island will be around for a long time - at least until Gary retires.

Well just when you think you are safe.....you probably aren't.

Looks like Mt Rainier is on the top ten volcanos that could blow. Kinda scary stuff. Then again practically the whole Washington/Oregon coast is supposed to drop underwater as well.

Could be psychosomatic!

And to think some people want to get rid of the US geological survey and the various volcano observatories.

If Mt. Rainier has a violent eruption with a lot of pyroclastic flows, tens of thousands of people could be killed without any kind of warning.
