Hi,

It's that time again where I have to flush out my coolant, and decided to go the Motul route.

Now all I know about the OEM BMW fluid is that it is Phosphate free and it's blue-ish in colour.

Here's my dilema:

Motul Inugel Expert Ultra (Blue) is BMW N600 69.0 approved and is Phosphate, Nitrate and Amine Free.

While....

Motul Inugel Optimal Ultra (Orange) is also BMW N600 69.0 approved and is Phosphate, Nitrate, Amine, Borate and Silicate free.

So which do I take? Blue or Orange ?

Dredging up some old posts...

I guess it doesn't matter which Motul coolant you use?

It's nitrite-free, amine-free, and phosphate-free.

The G-05 is similar but *with* nitrite. Nitrite is a useful additive for diesels as it reduces water jacket cavitation erosion.

If your Bimmer's still under warranty, go with blue - it's probably a virtual clone of BMW's own brew. (Can anyone say with certainty that Motul doesn't supply the BMW brew? For that matter, can anyone say with any certainty that BMW blue isn't a G-05?)

$18-20gal for BMW coolant at the dealer.
Or $8 for the Motul concentrate.

I did a little research on this some time ago and remember reading that BMW blue coolant is Glystantin (G-48) made by BASF. The BMW blue stuff is reasonably priced at a BMW dealer. Maybe 15% more costly than dexcool at a chain store.
