Munich. BMW M’s high-performance vehicles will soon deliver the ‘Ultimate Driving Machine’ experience in electric form. From 2027, BMW M will usher in a new era in the high-performance vehicle segment and, for the first time, bring BMW M’s motto, “Born on the racetrack. Made for the streets. Core of a passionate community”, to life with a fully electric drivetrain. “The next generation of models are set to establish a new benchmark in the high-performance vehicle segment,” says Franciscus van Meel, Managing Director of BMW M GmbH. “With the latest generation of Neue Klasse technology, we are taking the BMW M driving experience to a new level and will inspire our customers with outstanding, racetrack-ready driving dynamics for everyday use.”

"BMW has finally said the quiet part out loud: From 2027, every new M car will be electric. Not hybrid, not “electrified”, not clinging to a petrol engine for emotional support. Fully electric. It’s not clear whether BMW wants to frame this as evolution or revolution, but for car enthusiasts, it reads like a clear full stop at the end of the petrol-powered M story."
In my opinion, they need to rebadge it to something other than the legendary M moniker.

They are making the same goofy move that Honda has just done with the Prelude, except they are “all in” to the “e-craze”.

"Surely they’ll put some asterisk in small print that some competition CS or other special model will still be some ICE engine. Can’t imagine BMW have such a strong commitment to go EV with all M cars."

I saw this comment.

Highly doubt that will go like that. Even before EV's had a sales nosedive, BMW was saying they are keeping ICE until 2050.
Unless, they plan to offer what used to be M engine is some other package, and get people used on M badge being EV.

In this article it doesn't say anything about it being EV only.

I'm missing where it says ICE M models are discontinued only that there will be new EV M models?

First linked article does not seem to be an exceptionally trustworthy source.

I agree. I just updated it with the direct source.

They all state a time frame... Rarely followed through with.
At least they're talking about the EV evolution at least?.

The next gen M3 will have an ICE variant so I'm not sure this article is accurate. It also doesn't even have a quote or source.

BMW will offer both ICE and EV M3.

I've been following the Neue Klasse platform for a few years. I'm sure BMW will deliver an incredible product. So far their EVs are electric motor ICE cars, which is a compromise at best. These cars will be a pure play EV.

With current market conditions, including China, I would not be surprised if plans get changed, pushed out, whatever. BMW's recent years financial issues are no secret. And they aren't the only car company.

I'm waiting to see the Neue Klasse platform!

Well, they face headwinds for sure, but they made more profit than Tesla last year (although perhaps lower margins per unit). They just don't have a meme stock. With NVIDIA entering the self driving arena, I suspect everyone will be licensing theirs eventually other than Tesla and Alphabet.

Strange thing that unlike in the past where they took an ICE and converter to EV this is an EV where they will add ICE.

I've heard a few things about the Neue Klasse platform, including they may introduce a hybrid with the engine in front.
Makes sense from a marketing standpoint. Perhaps not the one I would buy, but that's just me.
