BMW $5,300 trany replacement estimate

Fun factor, personal preference, availability, options...I can think of plenty of reasons.

Russell bought a mid 90s BMW, so I assume had he been interested in a Lexus, he would have bought a mid 90s one. In my opinion, mid 90s Lexuses are pretty boring. Style wise they are just plain, and they are not as performance oriented as a BMW. Besides, maybe he just likes the BMW more. There isn't anything wrong with that.

This is my third BMW, I have driven them for 25 years. I know the cars, can work on them myself for many items, have a postive relationship with the dealer and indy mechanic. I also like the handling and looks of the 5 series e34 and e39 BMWs. Not sure about the newer e60 BMWs. Also not sure status is a major issue. In my community this is just an old car as Lexington, KY is full of new Lexus, mercedes, BMWs, and Audis. The big Lexus and Mercedes are especially prelevant.

Mid 90s mid size Lexus does not interst me. Did not want the large lexus. IMO, all luxery cars can become a bit more problamatic as they become older. That said, If my transmission fails. I may never buy another BMW if I must pay big bucks to fix it.

The manual equipped ones seem pretty stout. I knew a guy who had a 1992 325 or something with a 5 speed. The car had close to 200K on the original parts and had been raced fairly often. The guy I knew who bought it showed no mercy with the car either. Most repairs were fairly simple, but it didn't really need much. The interior was awful, and the exterior wasn't much to brag about either, but for $2000 it was worth it.
