I'd like a cheapo OBD2 reader that's Bluetooth that I can connect to my iPhone or iPad.

I've heard users talk on here about using the "torque" app but I assume that's just for Android users since I can't find it in the App Store.

Anybody have specific cheap models that they use that work with the iPhone? Also what app do you use?

Apple has a lot more restrictions on bluetooth, so many of those cheap bluetooth OBD II conntectors will not work.

I have a cheap android tablet I got for like $30 and use the Torque app for that.
The cheap bluetooth adapter I got on Amazon (like $7) does not work on my 2002 F150, but does work on my '12 Scion.

I am curious whether these would work on a BMW. I don't have an Android device so it has to be an iPad app and hardware that will work with BMW.

I got a cheap bluetooth OBDII doohickey that works with android and Torque. It works on an 07 HHR but not an 05 Neon, both of which are supposed to be CAN.

What's funny is I had the installation CD in my desktop computer, so I could email the file to my wife to install on the tablet. (no optical drive on it, obviously.) My antivirus kicked in and there was some sort of KeyGen/ Crack on the CD.

What's nice is it gives me the health of my EVAP system, what size orifice it thinks the leak is or somesuch. More than just a go/ no go "here's your CEL" situation.

Roger that.

You need a pricier wi-fi one or a pricier blue tooth unit to work with an iPhone. Or jailbreak your iPhone. I didn't want any of those options.

I bought a $6 ELM327 device from Ebay, then re-purposed a discarded Android phone running Jellybean (Motorola Defy XT) with free OBDII software. Works great, total cost $6. Call it $16 if you need to buy the Android phone - old tech is cheap!

My dad has an old Android phone, maybe I'll just use that and get an android one.

I have a BAFX OBD2 (popular and very good one from amazon) adapter. I upgraded to the Blue Driver. Best blutooth OBD2 you can get IMO. It does SRS, ABS, Mode 6 etc
