One of our cars is silver with the black rub strips on the front and rear bumpers including the entire spot on the rear for the rear license plate. It also has the black strips on the sides. My question is would a black frame look better on this car, or would chrome? I have seen a couple chrome frames that I like the design of, but not too many black frames.

My other car I have black frames as it's white with black mirrors, but the silver car I'm at a loss on.

IMHO if the car doesn't have any chrome on it why highlight the license plate with the only piece of chrome? if the car does have some chrome then the frame in chrome might look great.

Agree with the Slickster. Think of the plate frame as an accessory meant to highlight the current look. Sometimes a little contrast is nice (like your black frame on the white car) but you don't want the frame to stand out like a sore thumb.

If you want a touch of bling, look for a black chrome plate frame. Or, depending on the car, maybe a carbon fiber plate frame would set it off.

The Impala is an '03 and there are a couple chrome strips on the grille around and behind the bowtie. That's all I know of. I'll check Pep Boys' site, as there is one we visit in summer when we go to a minor league game, and can check the store then.

If the license plate is surrounded by black, I would use the black one. There's nothing saying you couldn't use a black one on the back and a chrome one on the front. I almost always use black. I like to downplay stuff like that. My father bought the ones that look like chains once. I almost peed myself.

FWIW, frames covering any portion of any letter of the license plate, are now illegal in the State of Texas. I have coworkers received citations for that.

Yeah, I know. It's been that way for a year or two now. I had to drill out the plate holes a little larger so nothing would touch.

On newer cars - the slight bubbled clear cover for the entire plate looks good w/o a frame and actually gives the plate some protection from other drivers banging your bumper to guide their parking. The plastic either gives or crack but the plate is still unscraped. Works real well on GM that has the front plate out on the nose of their front bumpers.

Really, now. Is there ANY doubt as to the appropriate license plate frame?

All competitors pale when one confronts the plate with the.....

RED LED EYES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh Yeah!!!!!!!!

those are illegal in many states, including Calif. (no surprise)

I found a site I can order covers from that have a black border integrated in the cover. My brakes are a priority, however, as are my wife's tires. Come on, IRS, send it, will you?!!!!!

If you were talking about a truck, I'd say barbed wire or nothing.

Impala? Black, definitely. There isn't enough chrome on those cars to warrant chrome plate frames unless you're running 20-inch Blades or something. Bling...

I like older cars with lots of chrome. The Celebrity I have now has no plate frames but if I have her running well again soon it's getting chrome frames front and rear, along with window tint, a new headliner, and OEM hubcaps. The '87-'88 DeVille caps on there now are wrong, just wrong! But they cover the black steel wheels so they're ok for now.
