My ATS only has two screw-holes to attach my license plate to. And because of the way my license plate warps, one of the lower corners sticks out a bit which drives me nuts. I've been using a dealer-provided plastic-chrome license plate frame but it's started to weather and I want to get their name off the rear of my car. Does anyone have a recommendation on a good, high-quality frame that won't corrode like the cheap plastic ones do? I've been looking at one from AutoGold which is made of stainless steel and has a lifetime warranty. It's available in a brushed finish which I like better than mirror chrome.

We carry ones called "Ultra Z" that seem to be pretty high quality. Personally I loathe plate frames and have never had one on any car I have owned.

I bought a heavily chromed frame for less than $20 from a kiosk in a shopping mall in So Cal 14 years ago, it looks as good now as it was new.

I bought my wife a brushed aluminum frame from her Alma Mater then sprayed about 10 coats of clear over it.

It's on it's 2nd car now. Looks as good as the day we bought it.

You can get customized aluminum ones online that say whatever you want it to say!

I looked at the WeatherTech "StainlessFrame License Plate Frame" but didn't like that it has 4 holes. The AutoGold one I'm considering only has 2 holes at the top.

I guess I am lucky, both my old Volvo R car and my new Mustang use 4 bolts on both the front and rear plates. The Volvo actually used studs to mount the plates on and then cap nuts that went on the studs. I did change out the Mustang;s bolts from chrome to black since the chrome looked horrible on the car.

I like double-sided sticky pads, they look a lot cleaner than a frame. Screws/studs etc are probably more secure but heavier and look plain wrong, IMO.

I noticed on the British tele show Wheeler Dealers they like to mount plates in Britain using double sided tape.

On the Trans Am mine is custom made of plastic. It says...
"Leave late, drive fast, get there early." Has been there for 10 years.

I used to have four bolts on the Jetta. The remnants of the bottom two are still there, but not so useful any more.

No. I added the extra ones on the Bird. I like having the four bolts. Back in the late 90s in this area there were a bunch of kids who would bend the license plates up off the bumper. They even got a few cop cars! After it happened on my 96 Z28 I started adding the extra fasteners.

What kind of spray did you use? I have some Krylon Clear Acrylic Gloss in the garage cabinet. Would something like that be good to use on the stainless steel frame with a brushed finish that I ordered? Or am I best just to use the frame as-is out of the package without spraying it with anything?

OK, gotcha. I am thinking about doing the same on my '00.
